Removing restrictor Kit NC30

Post by thelucky7 »

Hi there, long time listener, first time caller...

I'm trying to remove the restriction kit from my nc30 after i got it fitted at a garage 2 years ago. Had my license long enough to ride without it now. I took the tank off and the airbox and filter and got to the stage where I'm looking at the four rubber things underneath (I think these are the air inlets for the carbs?). As you may be able to tell I'm a bit inexperienced and have gone as far as Dave's basic maintenance DVD has shown me.

In my ignorance I thought I would be able to see the washers from here but it looks like I must delve deeper, I've read the other posts on here but I'm unsure without photos exactly what the next step is. Can anyone help out? maybe an amateur diagram drawn in paint or something? When I say carbs I may not be talking about carbs atall, I'm clueless but if I put my finger in the holes I can push the sprung gate open in each hole, and they close when I release them.

sooooo... where are the washers? does a restriction kit consist only of four washers? might I have jetting issues after removing? I never told the garage to adjust anything when putting the kit in?

Thanks for any help, much appreciated.

yes its just 4 washers
yes you may get jetting issues after removal but i doubt it

your on the right track, the carbs are between the v of the engine and that is what you are talking about, the rubber are under the carbs, not the rubber trumpet like things you can seen now, the rubbers have 2 jubilee like clamps on them, you need to loosen the top of the 2 (should be a cross head screwdriver) and then the carbs will lift up just enough to get your hand into the rubbers and pull the restrictor washers out

then reverse the procedure and start her up

good luck mate

Well seeing as I removed a restrictor kit the other day....

You need to remove these washers (they may look slightly different but should be in the same place).

Hi, thanks so much for your help, I still can't quite see where you are talking about. Here is a pic of what I'm looking at, could you point to where my attention should be? Let me know if I should stop playing at amateur mechanics and let a garage do it. Thanks again.

Your looking at the carbs, like spike said you need to REMOVE the whole carb assembly as the washers are inbetween the engine and the carbs.

If you look inbetween the V of the cylinders you'll see the jubilee clips that hold the carbs to the engine

You can see them in this pic, there are two on each carb (8 in total) you only need to undo the top one on each.

Thanks for your help guys, I got quite far, took the left side bottom fairing off, released the choke cable and idle adjust cable and the rear 2 top jubilee clips that I could get to but couldn't get to the front ones. the whole assembly is really kept on there by 4 jubilee clips? Do I need to take all the front fairing off? Anyway I chickened out as it got fiddlier, put it all back together and went for a ride instead but I'll try again soon. Your all a big help thanks.

Dunno 100% about the NC30 but I'm pretty sure it's the same as the NC35 in that you do not need to remove the top front fairing but just the mid panels.

You'll probably need either a very long or very short screw driver to get to the jubilie clips, the front right (on the NC35) you can _just_ get a screw driver into above the thermostat.
The front left you get at from under the carbs at an angle.

No matter what the carbs will be a bitch to remove and replace, you need quite some force. I've put all my weight on them before to try and get them in....

you dont need to discontect and cables, and for the front right you can just get it in above the thermostat, you dont need to remove the front fairing but you do need to remove the mid side fairing pannels

good luck with it mate but keep at it, once your done you will feel alot better as you'll know alot more about your bike mechanically ;)

Yup they really are held on with those 4 jubilee clips.

Undo them as much as possible before removing the carbs, as druid said they'll prob be a bit of a bitch to get off as they can be stiff, if you grasp the edges of the plate with the trumpets on that the airbox bolts to you can try lifting it up while wiggling it a bit. They'll come off with enough brute. Just make sure you bung the holes up with a bit of rag when the carbs are off, you don't want anything falling into the engine.

you were so close mate!!

If you push the black slide thing up that you were playin with before, and twist the throttle, you will be able to see the washers underneath the carbs.

Druid mate you got pictures for every occasion dont ya ;) good man lol
