chrishs' NC30
I'm Chris, 19 from Cornwall. With some help from a few guys on here, I got this NC30 in May '11. I got it locally for just over £1000, it had no service history, about 5 previous MOTs, and unknown to me, a few problems.

As soon as I got it back home I started stripping it down to see how it was underneath the fairings etc, and some of the sights were not pretty... Lower radiator knackered, exhaust system welded together (terrible job) with chemical metal used on the bottom joint, rear caliper and grub screw seized, airbox had holes drilled in it etc.

As I went through fixing the problems (with my, at the time, non existent mechanical knowledge) I seemed to unearth more problems...
Anyway, so it has been mostly fine since then, I did have to change the reg/rec and the battery, but that was about it. Once the garage was free for me to use (dad used to use it for his business), I got it inside and did a bit more work

This allowed me actually get on with stuff, instead of waiting on the weather. So I did my valve clearances, then cleaned, re-jetted the carbs (118/120), raised the needles, drilled the slides, stripped the paint from the yoke (it was horrid..).
Next was the chain adjuster, it was completely seized, with a lot of ruined teeth, so I got everything out (with relative ease surprisingly) and found a load of gravel. So I got all that out and sorted out the hub as much as possible.

That's it for now!
Cheers!

Re: chrishs' NC30
Been a while since I posted on this, or ever, but I'm back from uni for the summer and I wanted to carry on with my bike, so might as well spend the leftovers of my student loan on it.
So since my last posts I've not really done much to it, fitted some original indicators, and tried to clean it up as much as possible.

Now I'm completely stripping it down, except for taking the engine off and swingarm out as I don't have the castellated sockets, and am getting everything blasted and hopefully zinc plated. The problem is that there is actually nowhere in Cornwall that does the plating, so if anyone has a good place to recommend where I can send my parts to, let me know!

I know my airbox is pretty botched up, whoever had it before drilled a lot of holes in it.
Hopefully I'll be a bit more active on this now, gonna be sanding down my yoke, screen bracket, clip ons soon for my first try at spraying anything myself, should be interesting.
I've posted this in the wanted thread already, but if anyone has a nice aftermarket 3/4 / full system for sale, or might be willing to part with one, please let me know!

Re: chrishs' NC30
Nice colours, good luck. how about plating the bits yourself with a DIY kit from Gateros?
here's some pics of my Type 7, there was whole thread on my tidying/light restore job but unfortunately it all got deleted!

Re: chrishs' NC30
Good to see another Type 7, I never see them on here very much. Yours has given me some real inspiration to get on with mine more, lovely bike!
I did think about getting one of those, just wasn't sure if the tank you get would be big enough to fit my subframe in, and if I'd be skilled enough to get a decent finish. Only one way to find out I guess!

Re: chrishs' NC30
Had my first go at painting something myself for the first time, sprayed the yoke in satin black, came out pretty good if you ask me (the way the light is shining on it makes it look crap!)

Also got hold of an exhaust system, stainless TSR half system, standard (I'm guessing) front pipes, and an exhaust I'm not quite sure on.

I'll be taking a load of bits to be blasted very soon, not sure whether to have them painted or zinc plated afterwards.

Re: chrishs' NC30
Yesterday I bought some shelving units for the garage to put all of my bike parts on, because apparently the place was a mess (yeah right, an organised mess, I knew where everything was until people kept moving it!), so that should keep everyone happy.

Received my exhaust yesterday, just what I was after, great condition.

Started stripping the paint off of some parts yesterday, so they should be ready for priming today if I can get round to it.

Re: chrishs' NC30
Progress has been a bit slow recently, been quite busy with work.
Received some of Geoff's Chinese Rads (Cheers Concrete Jungle
) Did a quick test fit, had to bend a couple of brackets to get it to fit to my lower radiator mount, but other than they seem ok.

Quick question, I'm not sure if it was before, but it seems that when I fit the lower radiator properly, the fan bracket is pretty damn close, if not touching, my front downpipes. Should it be like that?
*edit,^ nevermind, just had another look at the radiators and I just didn't have the radiator tightened up properly. 'Tis fine now.
