Have to bump start

Hi guys yesterday my bike started first time without any problems. Now however it wont start using the button and it even backfired once (christ that was loud). But however i had to get to work so I tried bumping it and low behold it starts up first time with that little bit of motivation.
When it is nice and warm it will start up using the starter button but not when its cold anymore.
Any suggestions to what might have happened in one night?

Give the spark plugs a clean and see if it helps.

It could be the battery is on it's way out, the cold engine cranking over will take enough power away from the cdi / coils etc to give a poor spark and these bikes have a very marginal ignition system to start with!
When you bump start you have all the battery power just for the ignition system so it can start more easily.
New plugs do make a big difference to starting so might be worth a go.
Dobbs

Have you taken a reading of the battery when the ignition is on?

12.8v and the plugs seem fine...sigh anyone had trouble with the starter motor before? Because i'm starting to suspect it

If it turns over on the starter, I'd look at the coils first. Also check for any dodgy wiring or corroded connectors.
