Horn and indicators don't work

Post by Akey »

Hi
So basically have just got the bike back together again, but the horn and inidcators don't work, as in don't do anything at all. I don't have any experience with electrics, and all I have been able to check so far, is that the horn is working (hooked up a couple of 12v leads to it and it sounded..) REALLY stuck right now, any advice?

Whats that green (30a) doing in there?

Have you tested the fuses, they can LOOK ok but have still ruptured.

Just bought a multimeter and tested them all, they all work fine, also should the 30A not be there then? P.S- I don't know if it helps, but everything else is working on the bike..

You brought a multimeter to test fuses , you could of just checked the filaments

Well least the multimeter will come in handy , in my fuse box there all 10a or 15a

Ah, so should it be a 15 instead of that 30 then? Also, as I've now splashed out on the gadget, is there anywhere else I should be looking?

the higher the rating the higher the current needs to be to break the circuit and stop things from getting damaged so basically if the fuse is too high it may not break in case of an overload and cause more damage

id put a 15 or 10 in depending what it needs but it probably wont help the horn n indicator problem, checked the earth to the horn etc?

Slightly Incorrect to certain extent, a fuse or overcurrent protective device is used to protect the wiring of a circuit, as too much current will melt the insulation either causing a fire or it to short out potentially damaging electronic devices, such as a cdi etc.

The fuses in a nc fuse box should only be 10a and 15a, then a 30a in the starter solenoid, if you have a 30a in there chances are a bodge has been made in the passed.

Got it. Have replaced the 30 with a 15. So where is the horn earth?

Here is what the horn looks like. I've checked the two connections and that they are clean

Here is a pic of the horn

P.S- There is nothing too simple you can suggest, I am very amateur when it comes to this sort of thing!
