anodized carburetor...

Post by garyboy_palaboy »

Have anyone tried anodizing their carburetors here?

I have a plan to disassemble the entire carburetor assembly and get the whole body and covers anodized (not including the jets, internal parts, etc.). Will it have any effect on the carbs performance?

Im planning to get a new set of carb gaskets if this will work.

Anyone want to share their opinions?

Thanks!

Try cleaning them properly then - in a solvent bath. Ultrasonic is a waste of money.
Conventional wisdom says to know your limits. To know your limits you need to find them first. Finding your limits generally involves getting in over your head and hoping you live long enough to benefit from the experience. That's the fun part.

erm.. bit extreme if you ask me.. i can hardly SEE my carbs from under the tank, or the side.
why dont you spend the time and money on say the power output, suspension set up or brakes... than how the carbs look on the out side!

I suppose you could fabricate carbon fiber or CF Kevlar mix cosmetic covers?

Worked quite well for me, got them spotless whilst watching the telly ;)

As for the anodising, due to the nature of the process some (possibly tiny unimportant amounts) metal will be removed. Normally in the range of microns.

One advantage is the process chemically seals the aluminium so it wont corrode. Besides that I would not bother as you cant see them anyway

I wouldn't say that... here's something from another forum I frequent.

I wouldn't fancy anodising them, that'll be on the inside too and there are parts with extremely fine tolerances there. In any case, you're going to need them very well cleaned before treating.
