NC35 Battery draining after a couple of days.

Got an NC35 here i'm working on for my next toy and the battery's going dead after a few days.

It came to me with fried electrics. Replaced the Generator / RRunit with electrexworld replacements.

Leakback test says 2.1ma, which disappears if i unhook the RR unit.

Electrexworld say this tolerance is normal and shouldn't drain be draining the battery over 1 / 2 days and have told me to leave the bike with it disconnected for a few days to compare.

This is the only thing draining any current off the battery so other than that, the battery, Which is quite new is shagged?

Any thoughts / ideas

hae you checked the loom connections from the generator and also the generator resistance test?

New Generator / New Battery / New RR Unit.

RR unit provides 14 volts of power.

No burning plugs.

The new battery was tried with the junked RR / Generator unit so it might have harmed the battery? The battery will report as fully charged with my datatool charger. I'm going to try leaving the battery without the RR unit connected and see what happens.

when you have been riding the bike have you been using your lights?
i would check the output of the alternator and also check to see if the battery is getting a charge.
so get the battery charged up then connect it up and do the charge test and the output test.......
that should give you a better idea as to what is the problem.

I've only been out on it 3 times as it's still in the 'project' phase. each ride was about 15 miles but yes I do have the lights on all the while.

I'll try what you have suggested next, firstly i've charged the battery up and have it sitting at the moment, goign to leave it for a couple of days and record the voltage in it incase there is some internal short discharging it.

I'm guessing no-one else but me things that 2.6ma is high for a vfr? I worked out it should take 30 days to drain the battery with that load anyway, not 2 / 3.

Battery's been out for a couple of days now, fully charged it with a datatool smart charger before resting it in an environment with a constant temperature, put it on some dry wood too, although batterys dont' leak to earth as much anymore.

Right..

Day 1:

6.00pm - Fully charge the battery, reading of 12.75 volts.
6.30pm - 12.68v
8.00pm - 12.58v
9.00pm - 12.55v

Day 2:

01.00am - 12.49v
03.00am - 12.48v
03.00pm - 12.41v

Day 3:

03.00am - 12.36v
11.30am - 12.34v


Looks like batterys discharging itself a little quickly?

Thanks for confirming that! I'm sure I have another YTX7 knocking around somewhere, although thats probably bit the dust by now.

Any suggestions on a decent make?

when you fully charge a battery it usually drops down a little quickly at first,in my experiences anyway!
whilst the battery is charged get it back on the bike and try the tests i previously posted........
ive charged batterys up in the past and whilst leaving the multimeter connected the volts have literally went down as ive stood watching...........i wonder how much the volts will drop now its got down to 12.34v?that will still crank the engine,a battery usually will not crank the engine when its down to around 11.7-11.9v...there abouts.im not saying that the battery isn't faulty but just that its worth while trying the other tests...

batterys deffo shafted, hadn't got enough juice to start the bike today after 3 days of off the bike rest.

Ordered me a new honda replacement which i'll pick up next week. Charging systems brand new and outputting exactly the right voltages etc, running this battery on the old RR unit must have killed it
