Fuel leak from tap?

Post by wayneallen »

hi,
so i went out for a short ride the other day and when i returned home i noticed a strong fuel smell and on further inspection it was dripping from the bottom of the fuel tap under the tank! i lifted the tank with all the hoses still connected and started the engine. The fuel seemed to be coming from the little drain off pipe pointing downwards on the tap and only leaked while the engine was running! has anyone else had this problem and if so what can be done?
cheers, wayne. :?

do i need to get the whole tap or can you just get a new diaphragm for inside? im guessing this is the problem because the little drain off pipe comes from there!

Honda only sells complete taps ($£), Rick Oliver (site member) sells replacement diaphrams.

That isn't true. They have a "tap cover set" which is everything concerning the diaphram side of the tap. The kit comes with the diaphrams, spring, sandwich plate, cover plate, and screws.

P/N is 16953-449-751 or 16953-MV9-000

Cheers.

just a quick update! i took the tap off and striped it down checked all the rubbers and diaphragm inside put it back together and its fine now, no leak! im guessing there was a bit of crap in there! but i have had the tank off recently to repair a hole so maybe disturbed something! anyway, its fine now! :-)

Hahaha I've got the same problem, but with a 'race modded' fuel tap :(

Anyone know whether Rick O's or Genuine kits come with the seal between the tank and tap?
