Using 4DX clocks on a 3TJ. Is it a simple swap?
Hi, my speedo on the 3TJ has packed in, I've changed the speedo drive and cable, but there still isn't any movement in the clocks, so i think my clocks are dead.
So I'm looking for replacement clocks, was wondering if the 4DX clocks are a straight swap? I dunno if this has been asked before, did try searching but couldn't find anything... Thanks.

Yes they just plug straight in.
You'll need a derestriction box to plug into the loom at the back of the speedo otherwise it will restrict in all gears.

the most common are called mmax boxes, (might help your search). they are generally about 2inch by 2inch by about half inch black plastic boxes with a connector and a wire coming from them. there are some that wire in under the seat, i've got one somewhere but everthing is in japanese on the instructions so i need to work out the colours to match to the wiring of the bike to try it! migt sell it if i do but it won't be for a while!

M-max box is what is (thankfully already) fitted to mine. It goes between the 'clock loom' and the clocks themselves. If you fit 4DX clocks then you might not even end up with this connector on the back of the clocks??

You might be better off sourcing 3TJ clocks and using an inline KMH/MPH converter.

That would be brilliant if you could work one out for me Taggy, as I don't have a clue when it comes to wiring diagrams haha. And I don't mind waiting as i'm at university at the moment and have left all my tools at home :/
Oh, and do any of you guys know what this is for?

That's a derestrictor box it plugs into the loom and the clocks.
Some of the boxes just have one set of wires 1 connector and one single wire which would be easier if you use the 4DX clocks.
You can take the speedo out of the clocks - you might be able to find somebody to recon it, might be cheaper than buying clocks

I did have the gold converter with standard 3TJ. But I think i prefer the look of mph clocks. Let's hope Taggy can help me out
If not i'll just have to buy standard 3TJ clocks as i dont know anywhere to recondition clocks...

But the rev counter shows a lower red line than the 3TJ
