Few Q's for a race bike...

Well folks, im a long time listener first time caller. i have been trawling this place for a good while.
Ive been racing an RVF400 in Mondello Masters championship here in ireland for last 2 years. im taking this season out to rebuild me bike fully.

I have tried a few different carb setups and am gonna try a ram air type this year. I have a top rad with the first 2 cores cut out plus the rad itself is dropped. so i now have a nice little gap to fit a ram air duct. but a big obstruction is the frame support tube behind the headstock area. has anyone ever removed it or relocated it? Is it mainly just to strenghten the frame for road use? Its a narrow enough frame so im guessing that with all the engine mounts there would be very little flex in the frame if removed? Any input anyone?

I've seen a couple of rvf's using the standard fake ram air tubes type setup as real ones (like rc45's). You'll need to drill some holes in an rvf tank. That would be better than routing it behind the headstock in my opinion.

At the end of the day though it would be much easier buying a tried and proven setup (new or used) from one of the reputable v4 tuners (BMC, RLR etc).

I like making building the setups myself. plus people and companys look for stupid money for parts. ive seen ram air boxs fetching €100 +.
Drilling hole in the tank!! Madness.. Plus a lot of tight bends.
The ram air scoops ive seen have very small ductings and have a lot of tight bends in them. so im wondering if the airway was larger and less restrictive would it be better.

If you reckon drilling holes in the tank is madness...then I reckon removing frame bracing is close to lunacy :-)

There is a reason the designs have all converged on a front facing snorkel and box - it works.
