(complete novice) nc 30 slip on exhaust

Post by Kc6913 »

Hi everyone

last year i bought a vfr that was in need of a little TLC. so far all the cracked fairing has been repaired, waiting for the paint to be finished, seats recovered and new exhaust bought.
i went for a slip on but the problem that i have is that im not sure where to cut the original to fit the new can.
any pictures/help much appreciated.
thanks in advance.

kevin

The general consensus is... don't. Pick up a pre-cut half system off eBay and use that. Keep your nice, uncut original system as the price is only ever gonna go up and you'll kick yourself later on.

No, you just buy a little adaptor like this:

Perhaps not. It would mean cutting the old one open, re-packing it and welding it back together again. If it's as knackered as you say then it might not be worth the hassle. What's the exterior like? Any grazes or dents?

where i thought it was blowing, ive now taken a closer look and it looks like the the hole is intentional. im guessing to drain out condensation, its at the lowest part of the can.
it also had some kind of heat resistant tape on it on the inside near the top of the can, which i presumed was covering a hole. ive taken that tape off now to find 2 rusty studs/rivets underneath, what are they?

There's definitely a drain hole on the underside of the exhaust, but I'm unsure of the other rivets you're talking about. Any chance you could post some pictures?
