how do i tell a genuine HRC CDI
Hi folks, im about to change my NC35's CDI out for the Ignitech programmable version, and i know that the original HRC CDI's can be fairly well sought after(?), im wondering how i can tell if the one i'm removing is the genuine HRC item?
The embossed markings on it are:
Oki Electric Industry Co.,Ltd
MADE IN JAPAN
and a printed serial number i think of:
NKA
907B
9519
Where the connectors sit is a very tiny stamp of:
53178 MXJ1
Anyone know if this is 'genuine HRC'?
And if so, do you want it enough to make me an offer haha!
Thanks
Keith.

Does the bike have any other HRC stuff on it? Pistons / cams / carb setup etc?
Is it not running good with the HRC ignition box?
Been a few threads on the Ignitech ignition box lately, what are you hoping to achieve from buying one?

Re: how do i tell a genuine HRC CDI
not running good is an understatement haha! (i'll just say now that im in no way mechanically minded and am being guided through the 'fix' by a couple of much more experienced 400 heads)
its my race bike and we've never had the engine in bits in two years until last week when i cooked it (blew all the water out and started to bend bits inside) at Tonfanau, currently sorting out gaskets, valves, shims etc. bottom end looks ok so trying to salvage what was a very strong engine.
New CDI will allow me to set the rev limiter at about 15k rather than 15.5k and reduce the risk of over-revving (and associated damage) if it jumps out of gear. basically im trying to avoid buying a new lump, but if all this fails then thats what im looking at having to do, id rather spend it on entry fees and rubber!

Re: how do i tell a genuine HRC CDI
The hrc cdi rev limit is 14.5k rpm, the stock is 14k rpm, the tachos on the ncs are way out i wouldnt bother with the ignitech for the moment as theres a problem with being able to cope at higher rpms where you WILL lose power,
