New today to forum (nc21)

Post by andy1472 » Sat Apr 14, 2012 11:15 pm

Dam it. Good start. I just typed the history so far of my rescued bike and I lost the god dam lot grrrr.

Just a little to introduce myself. I'm Andy from near walsall (unfortunately) and 39. I'm a Rottweiler owner and breed trainer and bike mad.

I'll try again. I spotted an old nc21 for sale that had been standing for 8 years in 8 long painful winters so we snapped her up and decided to give her a 2nd crack at life considering its only done 17000 miles (not km).

Under those fairings were, well lets say was a right bag of you know what. Muck, rats, spiders, rust, mamouth's you name it and it was there living on it. Every consumable was totally consumed.
So far new rear caliper seals, pistons, pads (disk just ok for now). Same to do on front. Bleed nipple snapped inside so that to rescue yet. New collector box. The usual oil, filter ect. I was amazed the oil was water and condensation free. The oil filter was that rotten I pushed a hole through it with my thumb! New shock. New battery. Seat fairings to be painted. Was painted with wrong type so it reacted with the paint underneath. All front fairings are good.
Being a Tool Maker for 24 years I find no job impossible. I like a challenge. I also have the back up of a very clever motorcycle engineer called my dad.

Ok so you must be thinking why not buy a NC30 instead. Well so far apart from the fact I couldn't walk away and let this bike die I have still not spent more than £600 including parts, tools, van hire and £80 worth of diesel to fetch her.

I'll keep you updated as I go along.

When I work out how to attach pics I will post some of the state she was in as I found her. Post a few as I go along and then the finished bike with a big smile.

Thats all for now.

Thanx matey. I have a garage but at the mo its nicely nestled in my kitchen where I can have the odd dream at her as I'm passing the fridge to grab me a beer lol.
I was going to post pics of how I found her and then gradual ones as I went along but I don't know how to attach them unless that function is not available to me yet. (I know more about bikes than computers).

It's shame the bike is not in original colours. It's been done in a cbr rr style I think. Main thing at the mo though we now have it running very nicely. After a full carb clean of 8 years worth of rotten green crappy fuel and all sorts she started first crack. That impressed me.

Wish i could get away with putting my 30 in the house lol. If you put the pics onto photobucket.com or some other image hosting site then when your posting on here press the Img button above the typing box then paste the link to the photo like this that should work for you mate. Will be interesting to see what she looks like.

The benifits of being single matey lol. Last week I resprayed my down pipes and new collector box hung up in my shower hehe.
I have that many tools, bike bits and a whole bike in my kitchen that I asked my daughter "who put a cooker and a fridge in my garage?" lol.

Thanx for the photo info. I'll look into this later on tonight. I'll load pics in order of refurb. :-)

Oh yeah update........

I brought a brand new collector box from a chap on ebay who brought it for his 21 but never got round to fitting it. I offered him £65 and he accepted. I was blown away by how clean it is and no carbon inside. I can def tell its not been used.
My replacement shock came today too. £25 quid offer accepted. Errrm what else. Oh yeah I was looking for a piece of 38mm stainless tube and all the companies on ebay would not sell me half a meter as I only need a bit. I found a local chap today who owns a tube factory in manchester. He actually put what I needed in his car, brought it home and gave me his address so I could pick it up from up the road in person to save me postage. He charged me £5. Nice to know there are still some great companies about. Oh the tube........I'm designing a detachable collector box system with my dad so if it rots again its just a matter of leaving down pipes in place and unclamping the collector. Its not been done before and being a tool maker I can see ways round problems. All the people that say you can change the box with engine in place (on a 21) are talking bollox. The pipes will not fit in between the shocker housing on the frame without modification. We sorted it though. The dummy run on the old collector works. Just waiting for new stainless pipe clamps to arrive. Thats pretty much it today.
Been working on her every day for 5 weeks now. Roll on the Stafford bike show (Carol Nash) in 2 weeks. Its a bikers dream for parts and its only 15 miles from my house.
Pics to follow........
