2nd day more help needed please
Rightio people , after my bike randomly cut out (can still bump though) i was advised to test the rec/reg ive just come back from the garage and these are my results
Firstly i noticed the rec/reg isnt standard as there was no plug just spade terminals - what rec/reg is this r6?

Secondly i looked at the connection and it looks slightly misshaped-burnt and dirty as

So i followed rickO guide on testing the circuit and when i connected a/b on the yellow wires it was looking promosing at 1.4 then i tested the next to and got this

75.0
So i tested it to the engine/earth and got 74
The wires also feel stiff/cooked

So am i correct in thinking im now going to need a new rec/reg, alternator and do some rewiring ?
Im pretty sure batterys ok as it measured 11.98 volts with ign off

11.98 volts is flat battery but would be expected with a non-functioning charging system.
75 ohms is not good but you should check the connector that sits in the V between the cylinder banks. It could be stuffed and the reason for the bad alternator resistance readings. Once you have checked all the wiring to the rect/reg redo the readings.

Excuse my ignorence but whats the cylinder banks connection?
I was following the guide ya see and thats the only few things to check , is there another check for alternator issues?

the connector that sits in the V...
on my NC30 it was on the right hand side of the bike in a plate that holds about 5 connector blocks for various things on the bike.. my conector block was melted and burnt, i replaced that and it solved my charging issues.
edit,.. the three yellow wires come out the alternator.. on the left hand side of the bike when sitting on it. the wires run across the engine (in the middle the V) and into a connector block that then leads to the reg/rec

The exact position of the connector that sits in the V may vary from model to model but it is actually the connector between the stator and the wiring loom. Find the stator wires where they exit the engine case and just follow them until they reach the loom connector.

Ahh so take off the petty tank or can that stay , then do the same ohm test on them 3 wires ?

ive just had a read through the haynes manual and it says in here the ohms for the reg/rec test for yellow to yellow can be between 30-500 so surly mine isnt faulty as first predicted ?
although after more testing the current wires yellow - yellow go as follows
A+B - 75
B + C - 1.2
A+C - 75
so is this good or bad ? is this a stator fault ? and is there anyone locally who has a spare rec/reg that could maybe pop to mine and plug in to see if the bike starts or if there is something more at fault
i dont want to strip the alternator etc ...
any help much appreciated

Haynes manual is referring to the rect/reg not the stator. You are testing the stator and it should read 1-2 ohms for all three yellow wires and infinity between all yellow wires and chassis.
You need to locate the stator to loom connector in the V and check its condition, should be able to reach it with tank off or with side fairing removed.

so basically if i test the 3 wires straight from the stator connector in the V and they all read less then 1.0 then that stators fine
it then means the wiring up to the stator and into the reg/rec is damaged so a new batt and reg/rec and some wiring and jobs a gooden ?

If you call the 3 wires A B C
Measure between, A+B, B+C and A+C, you should have upto 1.0 ohm on each and no connection to earth.
Next, charge up the battery fully, don't connect the reg/rec yet and start the bike (make sure you don't touch the 3 yellow wires together as you'll be testing them (make sure the lights are off as the battery won't be charging now)
With the engine at 5000pm set your meter to AC volts and measure the same combinations of wires I mentioned above, you should have around 50v on all 3 pairs.
If it passes both of these it's safe for now to assume the genny is ok.
Turn the bike off, cut the burnt wires back as far as you can and solder in some new wires (they MUST be soldered, not crimped) and fully heatsshrink them to make them water-tight, it will stop corrrosion and your wires won't burn.
No idea what that reg/rec is off.
What I did as my 30 had burnt out the plug and charred the insulation as it was corroded was to cut the genny wires back until it was good insulation and solder some long patch leads on using appropriate thickness wire (no thinner than the original) with some spades soldered to the end, these go straight to the reg/rec.
