There's a guide on how to check the vfr/rvf electrical system here: http://www.400greybike.com/docs.htm
All you need is a multimeter.

Loosing all the oil and water is very worrying to me.
If it's not all over the road and bike then where has it gone?
Even if it's stopped.. if it suddently looses all the oil at speed the engine will blow up fantastically.
Electrical:
Follow cammos link above, check the bike is charging properly.
Also check the earth connections, theres only a few and if one is loose it will give you bad electrical problems.
Bad electrical can also mimik carb problems with poor running, so this would be the first thing i'd check.
Carbs:
After verifying the electrics check over the carbs.. cammo has a great guide on how to do this also as a sticky thread.

Re: bike is starting to annoy me ... please help
just a quick note, when the rectifier fails it allows 18v charging voltage to the battery. Batteries dont like this and boil dry, end of battery. The regulator should keep voltage down to 14v or just over.
Hope you persevere and get to enjoy the bike.
Mine was losing water when i got it, was a faulty rad cap, but i replaced the rads anyway as they dont work so well after 21 years.
Good luck
Dave

Yes thats the one.nazzurro1990 wrote:Ive found a 2004 r1 rec/reg on ebay which says full working condition its 5 pin
( Pin1 pin 2 pin 3 )( pin 4 __ pin 5)
Will that work ok?
Check your electrical system is at fault before replacing parts otherwise you won't know if your fixing anything.
You'll also need to cut off the block connector and solder spades on if doign the conversion.

Yes,
as long its 3 phase regulator (5 pin versions on Yamahas, kawasakis, triumphs etc) it will work. The best ones are the with FH prefix (mosfet like, expect £80 and more such as FH012, FH008 etc). The reg/rec's with SH are cheaper (shunt types with thyristors inside). If buying any on ebay, just make sure they come off from a bike with engine bigger than 600cc.
And again, dont buy chinese OEM replacement (going on ebay for approx £17 a piece) They are crap and will fail (even those with heatsink)
Connect yellow lines from stator with 3 pin bottom row and red/black with top row.
If unsure, send me PM...
