In-Line Fuel Tap

Post by Woddy »

Hello everyone! Right just a quik question, my FZR400 race bike does not have a fuel tap and just runs a pipe from the tank through a filter then into the fuel pump. Just wondering if it really needs a tap or does fuel not pass through once the fuel pump is off? I have seen some good universal in-line fuel taps on Ebay would it be a good idea to fit one?

Thanks

if you leave the tap open when you turn it (the ignition) off, it's just the same as having no tap at all. the tap only stops fuel from leaving the tank when you turn it off. the system will still have the same amount of pressure caused by the pump, so the fuel just sits in the lines. it would't be a problem i dont think, until you want to remove the tank, then you'll have to clamp the pipe.
Personally if it's a race bike i'd fit a quick release connector. as soon as you undo it it seals the pipe and no fuel can flow, much easier and allows you to drop the tank easily.
