No rebound damping.

Just finished changing the fork seals on my daughters NC30.

All seamed to go well but having finished, I compressed each one and one of them didn't seem to have any rebound damping. Presumably this must be because the oil isn't passing through the damper rod as it should.

Before I take it apart again, can anyone suggest what I should look for.

Only 1989 K has damper rod forks..

No idea why no damping though!

Sorry, but what is the difference between "damper rod" and "cartridge type" as mine has a damper rod but CMSMJ1 says they're cartridge.

Did you bleed the forks before you put it back together?

As 999Gomerz said if they are cartridge did you bleed them. Cartridge type can be identified by a rod that screws into the top cap. No rod on "rod" type.

Sorry if I sound stupid, but how do you bleed them.

To bleed the cartridge you pump the fork stanchions up and down all the way when assembled to remove all the air from them. When full resistance is built up all the air has gone.

The easiest way to identify that you have cartidge forks is by looking at the adjuster on the cap.

The early type just has a silver coloured metal screw (1 adjustment), these are damper rod forks.

The newer style cartridge forks have a small brass screw inset into the silver coloured screw that clicks into place as you adjust it. These are cartridge forks.

And yes.. you need to pump them a bit to purge air.
