Oil Filter

Hi just a quick question.
Would a oil filter wrench of the Hiflo be used on a OEM Oil Filter? are they the same size of 68mm? and the level of engine oil for it with filter should be 3200 ml. If i only add in 3L would there be any significant problem? if so how do i measure it to be 3200ml?

If you're replacing the oil filter, after draining the sump, just knock a screwdriver through the filter and turn to crack the thread open. Pre-fill the new filter as much as you can and smear some oil over the rubber O ring.

Re-fill with 2.5l of oil, start the bike and run for 30 seconds. Switch off and leave for 5 minutes to settle. Check the oil level. Add another 400-500ml if required, start and run for 30 seconds, switch off and leave for 5 mins. Check oil level again. If it just needs a little top up, fill an old 500ml coke bottle with oil (much easier to handle and pour small amounts) and pour a little in at a time, checking the oil level as you go, until you reach the MAX mark on the window or dipstick.

but after opening a bottle of engine oil is it ok to keep it back? i heard that once it is open you cannot reuse it. have to pour it all if not it will spoil if not used in a while. is it true? and my dip stick seems to be spoilt. (im not sure) as it is only like 1 inch long. and even after pouring 3 Litre of engine oil i am unable to see any sign of oil from the top hole.

You can keep it in a sealed container for quite some time as long as the container stays sealed and no water gets in. It's brake fluid that shouldn't be kept once opened as it is hydroscopic.

I've used oil from part used containers anything up to two years after I originally opened them.


I'm not sure about the disptick situation, you'd need confirmation from one of the GSXR guys :peace:

There is no dip stick, theres a sight glass on the casing below the filler cap.

the bike has to be pull to the right, almost straight in order to see the level clearly. TS... :grin:

yeah. about the sight glass. mine is stained already. the view is golden all the time. cannot trust it to see anything.
but for mine no matter how i tilt it, it seems to not be able to see the voume of engine oil. i even placed my finger in the hole as deep as i could but just not able to touch oil at all.

While it's drained, you might want to whip the cover off and clean the inside glass :peace:

But to whip out the cover i have to break the gasket right? which means i have to replace the gaskets? would those instant gasket be as good as a prefit size gasket?

Instant gasket is fine. Use Hylomar Blue. Don't accept any cheapo Halfrauds imitations :peace:
