1992 nc29 wont rev past 5,000 rpm when riding

Finally got my bike on the road but it struggles go rev cleanly past 5,500 rpm and upwards. It does feel like low fuel even with a full tank, or a flat spot where you hit a wall in the rev range but up to that point it pulls strongly and clean and runs very nice. it will rev cleanly in netrual past 8,000rpm and when on the paddock stand in gear it will rev cleanly all the way through to 9 - 10,000 rpm etc. The Carburation has been balanced to spec and sounds very strong on the throttle. very crisp.

I brought a set of good second hand clocks off a dealer, the speedo has had the speed restrictor taken off, but the dealer has said it won't effect the bike also it's got a mircon race end can but apart from that everything is standard spec. Has anyone else had this problame ?

I've had this problem and it was directly related to a duff set of clocks! (speedo wire)

Luckily I had a spare clockset and once plugged in it immediately solved the RPM restriction.

The same problem is mentioned here:

Its probably the speedo restriction not working properly( if you just disconnect it , it shuts down two cylinders) Doing the cdi wire splice to remove the restriction completely should get round this. 8-)
