NC 30 WOnt Idle well
Hi all almost got the nc 30 track bike i brought off ebay running perfect, did the carb jetting guide, did the speedo mod and fuel tap mod all running good when warm revs straight up to 14k no problem inly thing i have is a rough idle it wont hold 1.5k most the time will just go down slowly and cut out and if i turn up the idle adjuster abit higher it will hold then fly up on its own so cant win i was thinking carb balanceing could be it but it revs fine above 1.5 also someone said the butterflys might not be fully closed letting to much air in....anyone got any ideas?? dont want to balance carbs if i dont have to, sounds easy but getting to the adjuster screws looks impossible. Let me know your words of wizdom guys as soon as this is sorted im booking a track day. cheers Pete

I thought that but the carbs are well seated on in there rubbers and tight, i dont have that rubber flap on the air box but didnt think that could be the cause?

Could be a air leak, 1 of the pilot circuts blocked or carbs out of sync. Carbs are easy to sync, ive never once used gauges. Just pop the carbs off and balance the butterflys with a small drill piece then reset the idle.
Check your pipes when its idling to see if there all getting hot, if not then the respective pilot circut could be blocked

Re: NC 30 WOnt Idle well
The way i do it is i have a small block of metal i put in the throttle stop so the butterflys are held open slightly, then using a drill piece in the opening i balance the carbs as normal. Its not perfect and using a guage is bound to be more spot on but its worked fine for me for years.
Yes the pilot circuit consists of the 3 small holes near the buterfly, squirt carb cleaner down the pilot jet and blow compressed air back up through the 3 holes, when clear carb cleaner should flow clearly out of all 3 holes.
If all 4 pipes are getting hot when on idle (not reving) then your pilot circuit should be fine
