Loud rattle from the clutch area NC23
Hi all,
I took my Triarm out at Oulton yesterday (rebuilt top end over winter) just to check it out. Misfiring a fair bit but mechanically I think (hope!) the work I did is ok. Mid afternoon it developed a loud rattle coming from the clutch area, enough for me to pull in and get a lift back in the wagon of shame back to the paddock.
I've pulled the clutch apart and all seems good EXCEPT for the springs captivated in the back of the basket are quite loose (3 are anyway) when I shake the basket it sounds like a maracca. Is this a known fault?
Strikes me as a bit odd that it should so suddenly start making a noise.
Conversely, it could be something worse.....
Cheers,
Mike

I've got heavy duty springs in but it's not them I'm referring to, it's the ones behind the clutch basket.
It's a worry......

Thanks Adam, I have a couple of spares, they all rattle to some extent though. It's just the fact that it started fairly suddenly that bothers me mate....

possibly something thats not tightened to proper torque setting? could be an option.
or a weak clutch basket?

Re: Loud rattle from the clutch area NC23
Just a quick update,
turns out it was 2 exhaust valves mashed up. Probably my own fault, I assume I was a bit out with the cam timing. Weird that (apart from the performance loss) it sounded like a rattly clutch!
New head fitted with standard, non adjustable cams and it now sounds like a sewing machine. (Fingers firmly crossed!)
