What are people using to drive the lower steering head bearing onto the yoke? looking for a cheap alternative after misplacing my sealey driver :twisted:

slid it on as far as it will go, turn the yoke upside down and using the jaws of the vice loosely tap the bottom of the yoke/clamps with a mallet, or copper hammer and it will go down, turn it 3 - 9 o'clock 12-6 o'clock between taps,

in additions it helps to put the yoke and clamp in the freezer, and warm the bearing race also, dont forget a smidge of grease

I slide them on as far as possible. Then put the stem back into the headstock and tap the bottom yoke upwards with a nylon hammer :peace:
Conventional wisdom says to know your limits. To know your limits you need to find them first. Finding your limits generally involves getting in over your head and hoping you live long enough to benefit from the experience. That's the fun part.

I use the old bearing race inverted on the stem as a drift.

Just like this and with a BIG socket to hit against it too.

I used a length of that blue PVC water pipe from the builders' merchant. Worked a treat.
