URGENT HELP NEEDED - Tyres NC29

Post by paddy_nc29 »

Hi all, looking to fit some new tyres on the NC29 ready for the summer.

I've browsed a few posts relating to a 160 rear tyre being able to be put on a standard NC29 rear rim?

Is this true, what are the advantages/disadvantages, i'm really keen to know as if it's recommended then i'll get one.

What brand of tyre are people using for fast road riding dry conditions?

Also, with many of the people on here who have upgraded for a 160 rear on standard rim, have you increased the front to a 120 on the standard rim??? Can this be done and is it recommended??

Would really appreciate a response, (please don't tell me to search the forums as I have done this, and I did not find any definitive answers regarding the questions above)

Yeah the front should already be a 120 as for a 160 on the rear I use one on my trackbike as that little bit extra means I can get on the gas sooner and harder.
It's a bit pointless on the road IMO.

I've got a 160 on my daily bike, it's fine. It turns less sharply than the 150, but on the other hand there's more choice of 160s at my local shop than 150s. Also if you care about appearances, the 160 looks better imho.

edit: Oh and it may be different at your local dealer, but 160s cost a bit less than 150s where I shop.

There is nothing wrong with a set of 090s in standard 120/150 for the road. You'd have to be riding exceedingly hard to out perform them.

I've pushed an 090 past it's limits on the track....you can't do that on the road.

Fantastic tyres, I'm trying a set of super corsas for the first time this year and I am a little apprehensive.

Supercorsas SC1/2, fantastic tyres. Amazing grip, heat up quick and you know when they're going off, loads of notice. Very forgiving, perfect for a DRY day on the track, so therefore wouldnt be a tyre for the road in changeable conditions. The Bridgestone 090 is a brilliant all rounder of a tyre, though not as hard wearing as the 092, but therein lies the trade off.
No apprehension Tanuki, I think you'll be going well to outperform a well warmed up Pirelli. fecking expensive mind you.
