Homemade Abba-ish stand

I Knocked up my own Abba-style stand today, I got made redundant a few months ago and not much on the job front ither so buying bits n pieces is difficult,

So a couple of sections of trampoline, threaded bar, bolts, nuts, sockets andle grinder and drill i came up with this













since the photos ive cut down the threaded bar and i may shorten the width slightly, just a couple of wee bits to make it look better but it works and thats the main thing

Cool i wondered why someone with skills hasnt done this before, there not exactly complex are they. are you selling them?

Probably because Abba would sue for their intellectual property rights!

There pretty easy to make as theres not much to them, i had'nt planned selling them just needed 1 for myself, would'nt take much to get some proper materials and knock some up....

Abba had a note on their website, to the effect that if you knew of anyone making copies, would you please report them! It seemed a bit odd to me - to point out on their own website that there may be alternative suppliers , instead of concentrating on selling their own products, but they must have had a lot of trouble in the past.

Good work! I need one of those and I'm not looking forward to shelling out 150 notes to get one.

There used to be a company called NWS who made a similar stand in the ABBA style, but I think they went bust. It was actually a slightly better design in that it used a cone shape instead of ABBA's cup style fitting kit, so one stand would fit all bikes without having to buy new kits.

Sorry, but that's as rough as a badgers back end.

Kudos for the intuitivness of the unit, but I'd not put my faith in is long-term. The threaded bar that goes to the frame needs to be a fair bit heftier. How mad would you be if your bike fell over as a result of the thin bar giving way.

i know its rough but its for only short term at the mo and the bike isnt going to be on it for long, as i said i lost my job a few months ago and with a young family to support so buying bike stuff comes last so if a rough stand gets me bye it will have to do,

i cant get any thicker bar thru the frame thats as thick as it can be, im going to shorten the width of the stand so theres not so much threaded bar between the stand and the frame, but it is pertty solid even tho it doesnt look like it.....

I'm impressed u managed to knock that up with little effort or cost, and when u havent got money to chuck about how it looks is low priority. as long as it does its job then good luck to ya mate.

as for the job front....I wish u lots of luck finding something, its so harsh when u got a family to support and the pressure is huge. I've just been in the same position, so fingers crossed for mate!!
