Clutch Problems? HELP

hey guys I seem to be having problems with my 3TJ with the clutch. Basically when i engage first gear as it is running in neutral the bike will stall. But if i have the back wheel elevated like on a stand it wont stall but as im holding the clutch while the back wheel is off the ground the rear wheel wont stop spinning. i have checked the clutsh cable tension and all is fine at handle bar end and at the sprocket cover end. Oh and I have replaced the clutch plates, I just cant work it out why the clutch is not working also the bike has been sitting in me gargage 4 about 6 months unused.
would appreciate any help.

its absolutely normal for a bike sat on a stand, that is in gear and the clutch pulled in to move.
its got something to do with the friction in a clutch pack and the vscosiry of the oil.
can you stop the wheel from spinning it you put you foot against it to try and stop it spinning?

i would say its a fault with the side-stand switch.
normally if the side stand is down and the bike goes into gear it stalls, its a safety device

hey thanks for your reply. well when the bike is on the stand and in gear with the rear wheel spining you cant seem to slow it down with your foot cause its goin to fast but if you apply the rear brake while in first gear and holding in the clutch it will stall out. I have 20w-40 oil in the engine but is a recommended weight for the bike.
so you think it might be 2 do with the side stand?

It might be worth taking off the front sprocket cover and checking the clutch mechanism that lives in there. Its probably completely covered in chain wax/crud etc and might be siezed up or in need of adjusment.

Put an oil / engine flush in with that oil then drain and replace with 10-40w semi synthetic. 20-40 is a bit to thick and not allowing the clutch plate close propperly

If it was working fine before being stood for a while, the clutch plates may have stuck together.I suppose you could try applying brakes hard, rev it up and with the stand up and clutch pulled in, clunk it into second. That should free it up.

ok well I have checked the clutch mechanism in the sprocket cover and it is clean as can be and working fine. I have checked the wires that run down to the stand for the kill switch for when the stands down and disconnected it at the connect plug and jammed some metal in there to make sure it was completing the circuit and still stalls out. so ya think it might be worth a look at changing the oil weight to a lighter weight? and anymore ideas to get this going? thanks guys

is taking out the clutch plates a straight forward process if they are stuck together so I can free them up if that is the problem?

very strange. like EC0 says it must be to do with the oil weight and the fact that the clutch plates may be a little stuck together.
i can only comment on the FZR 400 3en2 model, but it is a piece of piss to take the fricton plates out, just take lots of pics so you can put it back together!!

In you first post you say that you've replaced the clutch plates, did someone else do them for you as you seem unsure about tackling the clutch yourself. Also, has the bike been laid up since you got the clutch plates replaced? if it has it could be the plates binding together.

What you could try is bump starting the bike in 2nd gear, and give the bike am armfull of throttle while you are holding the clutch lever in. If the plates are binding up a bit they might release when they are put under heavy load from accelerating.
