chemical metal for downpipes
I had a small hole on the downpipes near the collector box on my CBR600 FK 1989 I have now used chemical metal to fill the hole which has worked ok. It is still a bit loud so i put my hand underneath where I bodged the hole and it seems to be blowing quite a lot near the collector box now. Would I be able to use more chemical metal maybe spreading it over a larger scale just to get it through M.O.T until I can afford new pipes. The problem is I cant see any holes. Is it normal to have a little blowing or is it a definate fail.

Re: chemical metal for downpipes
Any detectable blowing is a fail, and rightly so. Any amount of bodging will cost some money, and not last long. I used 4 packs of silencer tape to bodge my GF's car, it failed 100 miles later and that was about when I noticed the money spent on silencer tape was an absolute waste, since the box failed first at one hole (taped), then another (taped) then split all up the seam, which was also about when I noticed there was no packing left in it anyway - short version, you are wasting your time trying to patch knackered exhausts. There probably won't be enough metal left to weld on, and collector boxes are complicated to get access on anyway.leelee85 wrote:I had a small hole on the downpipes near the collector box on my CBR600 FK 1989 I have now used chemical metal to fill the hole which has worked ok. Bite the bullet and get them replaced, ideally for stainless steel.
