Am I getting anywhere with my 3TJ?

Still battling with my 3TJ running, I put new plugs in to day which was a feat in itself, cleaned the carbs again!! And I am still puzzled? When itts running I can get it to idle ok, leave it for a while give a quick rev on the throttle and the revs soar up to about 5k and stays there? I have undo the idle screw to get the revs down and then it stops. Start it again and I have to screw the idle screw back in again to get it to idle again. Give a little bit of throttle and it all starts again! Linkage is fine and free! What the f!!!!! Is going on. I do have to balance the carbs but I need it stable to do this??

Check the pilot air screws are turned out to the standard settings I can't remember what they are at the moment (about 1 3/4 turns out from fully in) make sure there are no air leaks on the carb rubbers.
