More rear shock advise please

Post by VFR400-NC30-SWEENEY »

Ended up having to keep the shock but received a partial refund from ebay.

Anyway I fitted the shock yesterday, but I think theres something wrong.

The shock linkage is touching the exhaust pipes, I was wondering whether I put the linkage on wrong. I fitted with the ends curving downwards, like Haynes said. Heres a few photos, any ideas whats worng, or perhaps its because the shock it longer. But I wouldnt have thought it would effect it????

It looks like the shock is too long and making the bottom of linkage touch the exhaust, maybe he had it fitted with a non standard exhaust ? .

It is the wrong shock...but we know that. Nothing to be done about it - as long as it does not smack it too hard when the bike is not loaded?

You could always buy a new system and manipulate it so it doesnt touch, i dont think theres any play at all with the standard one. Or just take the shock back to the seller and beat him with it till he coughs up

On the plus side tho ive known people to use this shock with good results, thing is it needs revalving etc and with what you've paid already for it thats not really economical. Have you confirmed that its fitted with a heavier spring yet?

He says that the spring fitted is a 850lb one and is suitable for someone between 11-13 stone.. I have read a thread on here and I think that this is about right? ...

I doubt the revalving has been done, is there anything I can do to get the best out of the shock, e.g. increase dampening?

It does increase ride height, I have a photo on my phone will upload soon.

May be buying another one from Mark anyhow lol.
