NC29 Racers help needed
I want to fit a bigger rad but am running ram air so the standard rad has already been dropped to accomodate this.
Do any of you use 600 or fireblade rads and if so how do you get them to miss the downpipes and or the front wheel under heavy braking.
I have also heard that the NSR250 curved rad is a good option?
Anyone?
as you can see in the pics the standard rad has been dropped to allow for the scoop

and as you can see in these 2 pics its already pretty close to the Race system.

you could shorten the bottom rad mount abit by the look of it.. and make up a bracket to push the top of the rad out...so its on more of a tilt

Nice job on the Ram Air!
Looks like the fins on the existing rad are well bent out of shape!
How is the existing coolant levels? When last replaced? Any blockages?
How about refurbing the existing Rab, and seeing if thats enough?
1) straightening the fins with a "Rad comb"?
2) Complete flush out and replacement by quality stuff.
My pennies worth.
Cheers
Martin
PS:
Some more piccies of the RAM air would be good!
Who did it for you?
how much?
Cheers

yeah the standard rad that is on there is pretty knackered which is why I want to upgrade, the other reason being the engine is now running much higher compression than standard so is getting hotter than it used to....dont really see any point in trying to refurbish my old one when I know there are people out there that use a larger rad and an upgrade is preferable...as for the coolant the engine has only just gone in and I use distilled water and not coolant, I know water doesnt work as well but this is a trackbike and I wouldnt want to be responsible for someone slipping off (or me for that matter) and or a session cancelled if my bike pukes coolant all over the track.marty400 wrote:Looks like the fins on the existing rad are well bent out of shape!

If water is good enough for motoGP its good enough for me.

Hiya Tanuki,
A few more ideas:
1) For more clearance - How about chopping off a bit of the back end of the front wheel hugger? And just leave enough of the back end, to keep the stones off the new larger Rad?
2) How about a Narrow, but wider, replacement Rad? Not sure how you are going to get the Fairings on it though!
Cheers

Re: NC29 Racers help needed
Pull that rad back as far as it will go on a new lower bracket - machine off all the fan mounts - and trim 75mm off the back of the mudguard - run standard fork position and jack the back up to compensate - .... failing that fit HRC headers which run very tight to the head.
Chris Beverley flexes the forks on our race NC29s under breaking so the front tyre touches the fairing but the rad remains untouched just ....
Your scoop looks a little deep - let me have its depth dimension and I will compare with the genuine HRC item we run.
Hope that helps.

Re: NC29 Racers help needed
There's a fair bit of room between the rad and your headers, you could drop the rad further down and back safely.
As Graeme said, you need to trim the rear of your mudguard.

Re: NC29 Racers help needed
I run an R6 rad on mine. Mounts pretty much straight onto the NC29 frame mounts and the ram air scoop fits between it and the frame. It is a bit deeper than the NC29 one and about 30% bigger, but I also run HRC headers so not sure how it would fit with yours. There is a bit of friggin' around with car heater hoses, hose clamps and alloy piep to get it to fit though.
They can be picked up cheap on ebay from the US.

How much extra BHP and Torque does all this give you?
Any Dyno Graphs to look at?
