Exhaust gaskets

Post by Arin »

Hi all, nc29 cbr 400 here

My exhaust can and pipes were a rusty mess, so i have had it off to clean up, looks good now, and need to refit.

Can i reuse the 4 gaskets i removed ?

Perhaps adding firegum? Or instant gasket? Or something else you reccomend?

I also have had the can off, there is no rubber gasket between the bolts and can, there is wat looks like a rubber compound (instant gasket maybe) , shall i reapply when rebolting can back?

Thanks

There would have been a copper/paper gasket where the silencer bolts to the rest of the exhaust system at some point.
Clean the gunk up and get new gaskets as CMSMJ1 said they aren't that much to buy

The gaskets squash flattish as you tighten the bolts.

So to get a perfect seal is nigh on impossible with old gaskets.
