NC23 charging problems.....
Just picked up a 1990 NC23, bike is a good condition apart from it wont charge, the battery goes flat as soon as, it wont charge if you scoot around on the bike, the system is showing a charge of 11-ish volts when the bike is running....not the usual 13 - ish...
Bike is fine with another battery jumpleaded across - revs fine but splutters, coughs, & runs flat & stalls without??
Turing even the sidelights on will make matters worse, would this be altenator probs or the regulator/rectifier playing up??
Any one had similar probs??

Needs a new Battery by the sounds of it.
Suggest get that wired up, before anymore rennovations!
(you will need a new battery at some point anyway, so why not take the pain now>>)

Re: NC23 charging problems.....
Knackered battery would have been my first port of call, but its only charging around 11ish volts anyways?? Even with a good battery this would soon run flat, should be around the 15 volts mark??
Got it back home, will give it a wash down and inspection Thursday, see if anything strange is going on.... Have got three keys for it, one fits the ignition, one fits the tank, havnt worked out what the third one fits, possibly the pillion seat - should there be just one key for everything??

If u have a good V5, ur be fine!
Could be crash replacements, or crap keys cut

Re: NC23 charging problems.....
if the voltage is low, doesnt that suggest a buggered Reg/Rec?
i know when i had starting issues with my NC29 a few yrs back, bike shop checked the voltage and it was low as bike idled, they said reg/rec straight away. turned out to be a burnt wire at the reg/rec connector, cut and re-fitted crimp and all has been fine since.
