Track bike ignition question

Post by vfrman »

So, I am replacing the key ignition on my track bike with a toggle switch. Looking at the diagram it should be ok to splice the blue/orange wire with the red/black wire right? They both go from the ignition to the fuses. The red wire comes from the main fuse and battery. Also, since the blue/orange wire power the fan circuit, I can just not use this one, since I don't have a fan installed.

Can someone tell me if I am right or wrong on these two ideas?

If you are not using the fan then there is no need to connect the blue/orange wire at all. Toggle switch just needs to connect red to red/black to energize the ignition circuit.

Just make sure it has a spring loaded toggle to save your starter motor.

If you aren't running one then ignore me.

Starter motor is controlled by the starter switch which is different to the ignition switch. Ignition switch should be normal on/off so that battery power is applied continually when in the on position.

I find it easiest to use the kill switch for the ignition rather than add another switch.

If you intend to use Cammo's solution you will still need to connect the red & red/black wires together, with or without a switch.
