Hi Rhory,

I've done this and it does work, but only if you are able to keep the water temperature stable. If not, you just feed extra heat into the oil. I think the better solution is to use an air cooled oil radiator, either with a sandwich plate or by machining the lower engine casing like the UK NC30 / NC24. I'm going for this option on my current engine rebuild project and now have the correct oil pump & pipes to achieve it. If it all gets too cool, there will have to be some tape on the rads, but I can't imagine that will be very likely.

Regards,

Dave.

i have an oil/air cooler in the garage but i don't fancy taking apart a working motor to fit it,so i'll end up selling it on

thanks for the reply,i knew it would add extra heat into the rads but if i can get the rads to do there job right then i should be ok,i hope lol

has anyone else done it,i'm just curious to see how many have tried it...

and does anyone want me oil/air cooler...cheap.....

me Rhory.. :geek: (for the oil/air cooler) and yes, me, for the oil/water cooler. I have a fireblade one you can have if you like? You do need the central fitting to mount it to the block and filter but will do a swapsies if you like?

I got my mocal cooler fitted and it is buzzin..just need a slightly smaller rad...which I think yours is?

If your rads are top notch then I reckon running the water/oil cooler is a good idea. If your rads cannot cope with the current heat input then you are in trouble..
EDIT - thinking on, why not get a MOCAL cooler and fit that?

It takes some pipes, some fittings and mounting the rad. no drillingof anything and is reversible if you need to. Also, due to the extra oil in system you have an inherently cooler setup.

The smart money is on fitting the oil rad mate... You will need a smaller oil filter, so get a Yamaha FZ600S fazer one.

I fitted mine for about £50 and that was with buying extra oil pressure hoses.

ALl I would changce is to get a cooler that has a take off for oil pressure and temp and run some additonal gauges for these...but this can be sorted in the future.

Either way, if you want this fireblade cooler to try out then let me know as I am not going to use it :D

I wonder if the RC24 pump and pipes would fit.

When I fix the broken NC35 engine (jumping out of second) I'll take a look as I've got a spare RC24 pump.

heys guys,i've ben trying to figure out what parts where used to plumb the cooler into the pump cover on this site and fastdruid pointed me in the direction of pc water parts called barbs....on this topic

a quick search uncovered 10mm barbs but i think these are probably a little on the large side

have i just not looked hard enough and are there 6 or 8 mm barbs out there in which case can someone point me in the right direction or do you think these ones will work ok?
