NC 24 cold start problem
Hi, This is my first time on the forum.
I have a VFR 400 NC 24 but the bike has problems starting in the winter even with the choke but if i leave the bike till say 10 to 11 am it starts.
The carbs has been checked and all is in order.
What can be the problem.
Thanks in advance.

Re: NC 24 cold start problem
Yea did you check the carbs yourself?
I would also check the choke cable is working properly as mine snapped a couple months back (NC24 aswell) when i was startin it up after school. Luckily started anyway
And welcome to the forum

Re: NC 24 cold start problem
Thanks.
Well it was done by a garage.
When I got the bike about 4 months ago it didn’t even want to reach 140 kmph and it couldn’t pull out from under my 1.4i citi golf.
So I took it to a garage and they solved a lot of problems and the bike doesn’t have a problem filling the clock now and it pulls like a bat out of hell.
The choke cable snapped as well and I replaced it and the choke is definitely working.
The guy at the garage said that the simes and carbs go hand in hand but I don’t think it can be the simes the bike has 20 000k’s on the clock.
If I get it started early in the morning and it idles for 30 seconds it starts up easy if I try it again and after that it won’t have trouble starting for the hole day.

Re: NC 24 cold start problem
When i took the tank off to fix the fuel tap i noteced that there is 2 small pipes on the fuel tap but they wer blocked with screwes?
I cant see wher they must conect to and even if the fuel tap is closed there still comes out a bit of petrol.
What is that pipes sopose to do.
Someone told me it’s for vacume but i don’t see a plase where they should conect.

Re: NC 24 cold start problem
The vaccum pipe runs from the fuel tap to the no'3 (i think, the rear left) cylinder.
It does sound like something is wrong with the carbs / choke setup. Have you tried a second opinion from another mechanic.

Re: NC 24 cold start problem
to me, it sounds like some sort of carb icing. On my carb'd SV, i have a problem in winter that the bike has a very slow idle speed until after 15-20 mins of the engine running (including the 5 mins of warming up I'll give it) - it'll often cut out.
During the last winter, I found that using a higher octane fuel (e.g. shell V-power) prevented my bike from cutting out, and enabled it to warm up quicker. Maybe you can try somethin similar, just as a test, to see how alternative fuels affect your engine
(yesterday, I filled up with sainsburies unleaded...gave a horrible throttle response from off to just coming back on. Asda fuel is better!)

Re: NC 24 cold start problem
The SV has carb heaters but suzuki didn't put the sensor in a fixed place and it typically ends up sat in a place where it gets warm and stops heating the carbs. Make sure it sits in the airflow and isn't sheltered. I had no problems at down to -5 (well apart from my hands feeling like they were going to fall off!)alpinestarhero wrote:to me, it sounds like some sort of carb icing. But back to the OP's problem, my first thoughts are that the garage might have just cleaned the main and pilot jets and not touched the choke.

+1 on that train of thought.fastdruid wrote: But back to the OP's problem, my first thoughts are that the garage might have just cleaned the main and pilot jets and not touched the choke.

Chokes probably been forgot / left out and them running it in a warm garage etc probably never needed to use much choke.
