seat cowl repair, by fixing screws?

Slowly getting the bike back together and there are a few cracks around the fixing holes in the seat cowl, these two are the worst





I'm concerned the screws will go right through!

Any suggestions as to the best way to fix them appreciated

Plastex and maybe a metal washer bonded to the back to add strength

oh and dont do the bolts up so tight in the future

I'll google how to use plastex to repair cracks, I assume it's a case of creating a groove and filling it.

Regarding the bolts:

It wasn't me guv, the bike was like this when I got it - honest

Doesn't line up quite right by the tank on the RHS either, more fettling and fun on the cards I think

Grind a V groove in the crack with a dremel or something similar, apply the plastex(its a very fine powder) in the crack, apply the liquid to the powder, leave to dry and hey presto.

The black stuff is stronger so if its gunna be painted go for that, white is available and with a bit of time can be polished up till its virtually invisable.

re- the mountings not lining up on the right hand side at tank could be the subframe is slightly askew which may be the reason mounts are cracked in first place ? if its only slight then you will probably get away with elongating the mount holes slightly when doing the plastex repairs which would give you a degree of adjustability. don't mean to add to your headache on this bike so far and have you running to the drinks cabinet

Hmm. that might be something to check, how do I go about checking that then?

There's been a repair at the rear at some stage as there's a gap between the centre and rhs

There's a larger gap between tha cowl and the tank on the rhs

does look out of line going by the pics but hard to be 100% sure. take the the cowl off and have a good look for signs of broken paint or twists especially around the area where the pillion peg hangers studs are if bikes been dropped on r/h side the pillion pegs can bend subframe also check it by eying it up from behind does the undertray sit askew ? also the two front tabs on the main frame could be out of alignment . theres probably a more scientific way of checking it by measuring etc but on a positive note subframes are easily changed and relativly cheap though so keep the faith ogs , pretty sure someone on here will come up with a straight one at a reasonable price if needed .

Seems the plastic under the outer coating is black, and sods law I forgot to tick the white box on the plastex order and got clear by default. Used a needle file to create a groove, put powder in, liquid on top, seemed to work OK nnut of course I now have black lines as the plastex is clear.

Now all I have to do is find the matching red and white paint

My brake light surround pops out like that now and then as a support has broken, tried giving it a whack?
