Exhaust to can seal
Exhaust can seal.
The exhaust clamp holding my can on was split, so I got a new one and whipped it on earlier but there's still a blowing noise. After a little look, the can has two slits in the pipe that sits on the link pipe, so the air escapes at the top of these slits making the horrible hissing noise I've become accustomed to.
I've tried silicon and I've tried gun gum, but neither do the job to a satisfactory (noise free level). Should I be using an exhaust seal? A mate of mine who's a mechanic reckons it needs a seal or something between the link pipe and the can. Would make sense but tbh I don't see how it'd fit at all as it's a fudging tight fit as it is!
This is the #1 thing that bugs me (after the oil leak + clicky chain/front sprocket) about my bike as no matter what anyone else says about the sound, all I hear is the air escaping before the can.

Im gonna be using some RTV sealant on my cans, If its the pipe thats split what about JB weld to patch it up?

It's split, but intentionally split. I asked my mate who seemed to agree it was pretty standard. If I had the money I'd just buy a new can but they're so expensive :/

is it a cut standard system with a can/link pipe then maybe its been cut too far back and can wont slip fully on because of welds on lower heat shield ? only ask as made this fuk up myself on one before had to grind weld back to sort it on a motad venom can.

The end of the pipe's supposed to be split, so that the end deforms properly when it's clamped up. The splits sholdn't be any longer than 20mm or so, and you should have a clamp of about the same width too.
The link pipe should fit into the end of the can by at least 25-30mm, maybe more depending on the length of the pipe and how close the can is to the bike, so theat the splits are completely 'filled' by it. Then put the clamp over the end of the can, so it covers the splits. That's how my exhaust is made up, and it's airtight.
