NC30 Stanchions Advice Needed ASAP :-)
Hello,
Can some one shed some light on the NC30 Stanchions for me?
The Late ones I have, with damping adjustment, are knackered.
I've been offered some early NC30 stanchions cheap but am unsure whether they'll work with my internals and lowers, these only had external preload and no rebound adjustment but the stanchions measure the same 41mm by 550mm
Just want to ride my bike now the weathers nice!
Thanks guy's
Jonny

If you have a look at this site select the model you have and the stancions you have been offered, if the part numbers are the same for both models you should be fine

Although there are differences between your original cartridge type stanchions & the damper rod type replacements you have been offered, it might be worth a look to see what mods are needed to make the damper rod type work.
If the damper rod type stanchion internal diameter is too small for the cartridge internals or your original top cap does not fit the damper rod stanchion, then you have a significant machining problem.
Next you will need to remove the internal oil flow valve at the bottom of the damper rod stanchion and fit the anti-bottoming sleeve from the cartridge type stanchion. This may be another machining problem, although no anti-bottoming function would not necessarily be a show stopper, depends on your riding conditions.
Might sound complicated but a few quick measurements will tell you if there is any possibility of the change-over succeeding

Re: NC30 Stanchions Advice Needed ASAP :-)
Thanks for the advice.
I've come up with a short term solution by buying a set of early forks that I can use in my bike while I wait to find some later stanchions.....
I striped them this morning and rebuilt them with fresh oil and seals and they feel pretty good.
The early and late stanchions have the same dimensions as each other but different drillings at the bottom for oil flow and damping so I'd rather not mix them up.

yeah thats the diff between them, the early ones actually use the stanchion as a damper pole almost where as the later dont have holes but a damper rod. shame really. but glad you sorted it. i had some early forks for sale !!

Took the bike out tonight for an hour or so and the fork feels pretty good.
I put an extra 5mm on the oil height thinking that might help it resist bottoming a bit and it seems to have worked the dampings fairly good as well.
Pressures off on the late fork rebuild a bit :-)
Would still like some late stanchions though!
