NC35 Temperature Gauge

Post by dan1978 »

I have quite recently bought my NC35 and have yet to ride it as I am waiting to get my licence back. I have left the engine running on idle a few times and the temperature gauge needle doesn't move at all. I was wondering if this is normal or not?

check the temprature pick up is pluged into the thermo stat houseing right hand side uner the tank close to where you right knee would be whilst riding, only a one wire with a crimped plug that slides on

Ok. Thanks for the replies.

I will have to check the temperature pick up is plugged in. Is this quite a common problem on NC35s regarding temperature gauge faults?

When you turn the ignition on the needle should noticeably move a few mm, if it doesn't do this then it's a power problem, not a thermostat issue.

Faults aren't common, it's a very simple system so it can't be anything too major.

Just turned on the ignition and the temp gauge needle moves a few mm. Is this normal and everything ok?

Yes mate, that would indicate the issue is with the temperature sender side of thing.

Have you checked the wire like pornodog suggested?

I have checked the wire and it is connected.

I am going to ask a bike mechanic if he can look at it.

it is a simple thing... the temp gauge works..you know that. the temp sender off the rad is probably dead..so get a new one.

Mechanics, in my experience, are not divine creatures with the skills. They have seen it all before and then charge you £30 for it.....

Do you have to drain the coolant when replacing the temperature sender unit?
