Frankenbike Honcati is a non-starter

Ok, so I thought it would be a good idea to build a track bike out of spare parts I had laying around. Got it pretty much all together and tried to give it a start tonight.

There is power to the instruments but when I press the starter, nothing.... no clicking, no dimming of oil pressure bulb, nada. And yes, the engine cutoff is in the "on" position.

So, now I have to start figuring out what it could be. Any suggestions?? I am thinking starter solenoid, cutoff switch or starter button. I will start chasing the wiring tomorrow to see if the cutoff or starter button are working.

just make sure the starter solenoid is wired in the right way round, I managed to get it backwards and there was no response from the starter motor.

Stupid thing to check, I know, but you'll kick yourself if you spend hours checking complicated stuff and it turns out to be something like that

Did you try pulling in the clutch lever?

Just checking as if the neutral is dodgy then the starter wont engage, I used to have to start it with the clutch in even in neutral.

That sounds like it to me too - I've had this quite a few times on my NC30.

yeah as all have said check the safety start system.

Diode, Clutch Switch, Neutral Switch,

also check that the kill switch is plugged in properly in the bracket. and that the CDI is also firmly plugged in.

you can cheat to check the starter isnt jammed etc, but make sure its deffinatley in neutral,

use a jump lead on the live battery terminal and one onto the live pin on the starter motor if the engine turns you know you have a good earth and the starter is ok etc.

ALSO check the main 30A fuse,

Whoa whoa, hold on. There is a clutch switch? I don't have the clutch lever on the bike yet, and there is no wiring going to the left clipon. Shit.

Yeah, but you shouldn't need it, as long as you have the green neutral light on......

I don't know which light is on, the Speedo is non-existent. I will have to look at the wires and compare to a diagram. There is only one light on, so I must assume it is the oil pressure light.
