NC23 rattle at 4/5/6k revs
ive took my bike apart today to check my jets, once i had put the bike back together its gained an horrible rattle from 4k revs to 6k revs.. it sounds like theres metal grinding in the engine and sounds rather clunky.. once i hit over 6k revs its fine also up to 4k revs is fine also..
last thing i want is it to go kaboom on me while im riding down the road..
anyone with any clues what it is??

What odds are there that something fell in to the inlet ports? That'd be pretty bad news.DK-Tandy wrote:ive took my bike apart today to check my jets, once i had put the bike back together its gained an horrible rattle from 4k revs to 6k revs.. it sounds like theres metal grinding in the engine and sounds rather clunky.. once i hit over 6k revs its fine also up to 4k revs is fine also..

Re: NC23 rattle at 4/5/6k revs
before i stripped the bike, i used to get it at 6k revs but since taking the carbs off and re-fitting its started at 4k to 6k now...
could it be vibrations? ive noticed if i press down on my tank, its quieter... so i know my tank has a slight rattle..

Re: NC23 rattle at 4/5/6k revs
Could be anything if its just a feint rattle, You may have something rattling against the bottom of the tank, your inlet clips might be letting in some air causing a rattling type sound, you might have a relay rattling around, fuel pump vibrations.... If its not strictly mechanical then there are lots of annoying rattles that can occur, often raspy type sounds which tail off after revs.
As for the fact that its only at certain revs, think about resonance and frequencys of sound. Only certain things will react at a certain 'pitch' or depth of a noise/vibration. For example, my bolt on screen on my XJ550 only vibrates at mid revs, not early on or higher in the revs, the clutch lever bounces up and down at tickover but stops whilst cruising etc etc
Hopefully this is why you are only getting these annoying rattles at these revs.

Re: NC23 rattle at 4/5/6k revs
ive noticed that when i hit the rough rev range, if i push on tank near above fuel cap it goes..
at the RAF meet, curt said he liked the vibration at around those revs so i think its causing the tank to chatter on my frame.. my plan is to fit a peice of rubber between the tank and the frame where it bolts near the handlebars..
hopefully giving it some height above my frame and cushioning with the vibration :)

It should have rubbers on each side anyway - get some proper Honda ones from Graeme.
