150/60 R18 in a 3EN2
Has anyone definitely got a 150/60 R18 on the back wheel of a 3EN2?
I know they go in at least some FZR400s, but I'm a bit worried as the rear end in my manual is different to the rear swingarm that I have, which has a cross beam up at the top. My garage decided a 140/70 would fit ok, but it doesn't, it touches the cross beam
Or how about a 130/70???

Stick a pic up and we'll try and help. There should be enough room to get a 140/70-18 in because they're the standard 3EN1/2 size.

Thanks for the response Kayla.
The 140/70 R18 is on, and in, and it definitely doesn't fit. It's a Avon Roadrider AM26. Standard is 140/60 R18, so the extra height means it hits the cross beam. Pics:

From you picture you have the chain adjusters on the minimum, you'll find the wheel comes back a bit when the chain's on and tensioned, unless you've got non-standard sprokets.
Do the chain then take a picture.

This, and thanks for correcting me about the tyre size! If you haven't had the bike long, maybe the previous owner took a link out of the chain to extend its life and that's why you've got issues. That looks like a standard 3EN2 swingarm though.Evilchicken0 wrote:From you picture you have the chain adjusters on the minimum, you'll find the wheel comes back a bit when the chain's on and tensioned, unless you've got non-standard sprokets.

Re: 150/60 R18 in a 3EN2
Both good suggestions, thanks for taking the time. But,
The tensioners are on min, but the wheel is half way back. It still in contact if the wheel is pulled all the way out of the chain tensioner slot - this is why the chain is off the sprocket in the picture, so I could check this. Tyres expand when warm by a cm or so too.
The chain is brand new on, with standard sprockets and 130 links.
So there's no way it's going to go, short of chopping the link in the swingarm. Which would be a bit mental, even for me. Change of tyre or change of tyre or wheel and tyre is the only option I think. I don't want to run super soft tyres which is the only option at 140/60 R18, too expensive.

I have about a fingers width either side of the tyre, which is 666mm according to this:
http://www.avon-tyres.co.uk/motorcycle/roadrider
So I think I've talked myself out of 150/60s, which would be an extra 15mm width by my reckoning. 130/70 R18s would still be a bit deep too in the same model.
Kayla, you talked about XJR400 wheels here:

When you say "brake stuff", do you mean the just the mount and calliper or is there anything else?
I'm also looking at FZR250 and TZR125 wheels... any experience with these?

I don't know why this doesn't fit, there's no reason why the tyre should touch the swingarm.
Can you take the wheel out and reinstall it. Then tension the chain and see where it gets you ??? I've had a 3en2 and it had a 150 tyre in.

Re: 150/60 R18 in a 3EN2
It's a 140/70, not a 150/60, so the height is greater than a 150/60. 70% of 140 = 98, 60% of 150 is 90. Comparing the raw calcs to the spec sheet it seems it's a bit taller than that even.
It's a big fat fatty!

Hiya my 1p's worth
You could get another 1wg models swingarm like the genesis or 3en1. They have very very close dimensions (if not identical). I've compared the braced(3en2??) arm to my genesis/2tk/3tj arms and they will all go in. The 3tj arm pivot needs some bushes made but you get the bonus of a 17" rim.
I've bought some tzr125 magnesium rims which are lighter and the right width....but they look very spindly to me and I've put off putting them on while I've got some tyres left ;o) I've also just bought a 4x17" SZR660 rear rim which looks cool and might try and get that on instead.

Re: 150/60 R18 in a 3EN2
oops just checked your pictures and realised you don't have the braced arm which I thought was causing the problems.
This is worrying as I was thinking of going up a size if I was too lazy to put a different wheel in.
