charging problem ??
I have a 1989 vfr nc30. It was struggling to start at first as if the battery was dead. so i charged it this started it no problem i checked the voltage accross the battery terminals this read 22v then with the lights on 20v. I asked a mate about it and he recommended rectifier so i replaced that and the battery. Again this started the bike fine i rode it round the block with the lights on no longer than 10mins got back switched it off then it wouldnt start again. I read on another site about the wires on the right hand side of the engine (comes out of the flywheel casing) that these tend to get hot. So with this in mind i checked mine. I found 3 yellow wires that had melted so i repaired them. A gain connected my charged new battery fitted it and it fired up again. i checked the voltage across the battery terminals again and it was still reading 19v. I am now wondering weather those wires have blown the new rectifier i fitted to it. Its fine untill i switch the lights on and then the horn dies down. I did remove the flywheel cover as i was gunna check the stator plate but on removing the cover oil came out which i didnt think was right as i never recall my mx bike having oil in the flywheel. Does anyone have any ideas on this because i am stuck with this now.

Re: charging problem ??
Not the easiest to read in italics
You need to check the output of the alternator (a little bit of oil out the cover is normal)
It does sound like you have killed the battery and the reg rec again.
So..you will have to cut out the melted wiring, run some fresh wire to a new reg rec (get an R6 03-05 model) and go from there.
Bit of a ballache, but nothing new to us on here!
Welcome..

Re: charging problem ??
Battery will have died running that much voltage to it, this could have killed your new reg/rec.. where did you get this rr from? It could be faulty..
