RRSP PROJECT (WINTER 2011 / 2012)

Post by sportspromatt »

Seriously thinking about making a project out of this SP, if it doesnt sell soon. see for sale section.
shame really as, its such a repliable, tight wee original bike, with flatsides etc, and as far as I know only 500 produced, was the last version (colour) of SP produced. Great wee bike, needs nothing and is ready for the summer. Mot, taxed, would ride it more, but have very little free time during the summer.
looking £1,750 , if not project could begin!!!

Ideally Id like the project bike first SP colours as the, red, white and blue. have to try 600 engine conversion. different forks ?, rear R6 shock, any advice, suggestions welcome, need to get searching this forum for tips!

All parts removed from bike, will service as spare for the other SP (red, black, yellow bike in pic) ive got, that will be treated to a full restoration after this project. if white SP doesnt sell.
Shame to break this wee bike, Im sure there are loads of 3TJ's out there, that could be used as a project, rather than breaking a decent bike?

Any suggestions / advice on 400/600 conversion welcome? Or possible interested buyers#!

ok, going by this forum the thundercat engine 600YZF is a no, no. if you want engine straight, without hacking the frame. (has this front sprocket problem been sorted yet?)
I have a 400RRSP, that wont sell, dont know why, If i didnt own it, i'd buy it! £1,600 with free OGK helmet to match bike.

Plan is to find a FZR600 and convert this to a 4/600 this winter. Im on a budget. so its a FZR600 fox eye or earlier FZR600 Exup, does this fit without hacking the frame. So gonna need engine, carbs, airbox for modding, CDI + wiring loom. exhaust. anything else I need, (FRAME ENGINE MOUNT BRACKETS)
Will the 600 front end, forks, top and bottom yokes fit a SP FZR 3TJ frame, complete with front wheel and brake setup?
or will a R6 front end fit. top and bottom yokes & front forks.
What else am I missing? guy selling a shed load of 600 bits, basically two bikes, but all in bits
but cheap, 2 engines (3HH) one has oil cooler, one hasnt? dont know much about 600's.
Anything I can check on engines, remove crank cover and try them surpose, make sure they are not seized?
Need to find out what he has got?

One thing I will need is someone who can setup carbs, as bike shops over here, are pants? gonna get talkin to a few racers in a few weeks, findout whos decent who aint!

Want to build a good 600 for next year for road use, and restore this to it former glory! (keepin it standard though!)

It doesn't matter which engine you use (FZR600R 4JH or Thundercat 4TV), you need to trim the inside of the frame to get the engine to sit straight. You could get around it by taking extra off the left side of the engine, but then you'd lose some of the thread that the engine bolts into.

The earlier 3HE engines don't fit in the 3TJ frame because there's no head mount on them.

As for not being able to sell the SP, it is a lovely looking bike but £1600 is cheap R6 territory. If I had the money I'd have it off you just to save it from being chopped up.

+1 with leave it alone!

I've had 4 3TJ's but never an SP (not for the want of trying!). Its a cracking bike and in the right hands runs rings around the bigger stuff in the right places. Ok, so it lacks a 160mph top end and isn't exactly 'roomy' for the long legged, but it more than makes up for it with agility and mega grin factor.

I'd have to agree that the money your after is R6/GSXR/ZX6/CBR6 territory, sign of the times i'm afraid :(

If it wasn't for the imminent (as in tomorrow!) arrival of my new baby, the fact the garage is already full of bikes, and lack of funds, i'd be biting your arm off to have it.

Please don't use it for spares or be tempted with a 600 conversion, it's far too good for that. If you want the challenge of a conversion, get a rolling chassis and build one up that way - there's plenty of help and parts available right here

I'll straight swap you my 400/4 for it.

If I'm honest if I sold the 400/4 I'd probably want to buy your bike. I've spent about £3k on it over the years and it got an MOT around Christmas (doesn't need tax or sorn because it was taken off the road before the sorn stuff started). PM me
