Think i might try get a programmable one but just wanted to know if anyone had actually bought one seeing as they are quite cheap. and that normally means nasty.

How did the bike go before YOU over revved it? At what revs did the valves drop?

Ive run one of these units back to back with a standard unit on the dyno and there was no difference's at all between them except the non standard unit didn't have a rev limiter! or should i say the dyno operator shut off before one was found due to mechanical sympathy.

I have to say the unit i used was very different to the standard unit. with the jetting i had the standard CDI was very flat at 11.5 to 13k but the chinese one revved all way till you let off the throttle. I have to say this doesn't make it any better, it just masked fueling issues.
To answer your question, i think it was revving to 16k + once the red mist falls and you are desperate to overtake you tend not to notice the revvs going up and up, if it keeps pulling you keep twisting (very very dangerous and expensive )
I would sure recomend a programable CDI and having the bike set up on a dyno by someone that knows these bikes. it is likely to save you lots of time and money in the long run
