Even More NC24-Wiring Questions

Post by BigDonk »

Right guys
Front Brake, there is a small micro switch under the brake lever (is this more japanese namby pambyness)
This has been disconnected and and a connection loop made to by pass it,

so the question is, is this switch required (rear brake light perhaps) rear light cluster is off at the moment so I cannot check it, or has it been looped out as it is not required in the UK?

if it is required are replacements available or can switches from other bikes be used? as some phillistine has bent connection tabs back round the switch, which having read sod's law time and time again they are bound to break off when I try to straighten them

That would be the rear brake light switch.

A connection loop to bypass it? That would make the brake light on all the while.

Unless you mean clutch side? And this is to stop you starting the engine in gear unless the clutch is pulled in.

You can get replacement microswitches if you can't straighten it.

Usually people do this when the clutch switch wears out as the bike wont start in gear without the clutch pulled in (or switch bypassed) which is a really bad idea.. try starting it on the sidestand and find out when it rolls away and falls over >.<

You dont need to bodge the brakelight switch though as even when its disconnected the bike still runs normall you just dont have a brake light, so not sure why thats been put constantly on...

Yep its defo the brake switch, but I see what you mean about it being looped in would have the brake light on constantly, I will rig up the rear lights and check that out and check out David silvers for a new switch just in case
the existing one is gubbed, will let you know

Found out the reason why the brake switch was looped in, the rear lights do not work, went out for a scoot and
stopped at a set of lights, an got told by a passing fellow motorcyclist that my rear lights were out, brake stop light worked fine on both front and rear brakes but no reat light, hmmm, so got home, checked fuses, checked bulbs, and connections that I could access, all fine, went to my shite bin and dug out the the loop which was in the front brake switch, bastardo!!!!!!! the rear lights that I had before this posting about the loop were my brake lights,

so dumb question is are there any area of the wiring loom that I should look at for possible common failures, or will I have to replace the lighting circuit or added new wires and leave the old in situ as the loom is old and probably brittle

circuit diagram anyone? or will the NC30 one do?

NC30 one is totally different.

Have you checked the bulbs first? There normal twin fillament bulbs.. one of the filmanets could have gone in each bulb or they could have corroded contacts.

The rear light is simple wiring, it runs to a plug you can unplug.. test the wires here for voltage between earth and the others.. you should get a 12v when you switch the lights on.. if you get it there then this confirms you have power to at least the plug.

I think its a blue wire but cant remember off hand, try them all.. one lead to frame, one to one of the pins and have someone turn the lights on and off with the igntiion on.. you shuold get 12v come to one of the pins.

oh and obv have a 12v on one fo the pins if you leave the loop on.. shouldnt take long to figure out :)
