400RR Won't start!
Hello everyone,
Bought a '89 FZR 400 at xmas.
Rode it home no problems, parked it up for the winter, started it a couple of times and got it up to temp, then left it for a later date. Sun came out, tried to start it, no go. So I put some new plugs in, new oil and filter, battery on a starter pack, still nothing. She'll turn over, but no so much as a cough!
There's a good spark, took out plug '1', and it had a nice spark. Emptied fuel out of tank and put in a fresh gallon. I've got fuel pumping from the tank to the carbs, but after a few times of trying to start it again, looked at the '1' plug again and it was as dry as Ghandi's sandal!
I'm no dunce when it comes to bikes, used to race mono's and thrash about on elsie's, but this has me stumped!
Way too many carbs for my little brain....
Help!!!

your carbs sound blocked up - take them off and give them a good clean with carb cleaner/compressed air.

When trying to start it, use full choke with no throttle. See if it goes then.
I have trouble, at present, with one of my bikes. A quick squirt in the morning of easy start gets it going. Then it tends to start without any problems all day.

Take the airbox off, lift the carb slides and put a good squirt of carb cleaner down each one then try it. If it runs for a couple of seconds and dies then you know it's fuel.
As said, clean the carbs but think of the engine as 4 singles joined

Re: 400RR Won't start!
Easy start worked, she fired up first time. Took it for a thrash, but had a huge flat spot at 6500rpm, then reluctantly pulled through to 1300rpm. It then stopped on tickover and wouldn't start. Flat battery. So I'm hoping the flat battery is causing the lack of oomph! I'll charge the battery and give that a go.

All sorted, she's running lovely.
Just a little weep of fuel coming from the tap, but a new o-ring should solve that.
Ya'll never told me it would be so much fun, now just have to squeeze back into the leathers and we can go for a proper blast.....

not sure. while the battery was charging i went through and checked and cleaned all the relevant electrical connectors. she's flying now, thats all that matters.
