i have just bought a Honda vfr rc24 1987 and i was hoping some one could answer a few question i have :)
i was told when i got The bike the speedo was in km, it does state km on the clock but iv been worried riding on roads with speed cameras just in case, I'm aware 48 km is 30mph but it feels more so i got my sister to drive her can at 30mph and me along side at the same speed and i was doing 30km level with her?? it must be in mph but says km , is this common ? sorry to bang on just wanna feel safe on the road,
the bike also came with no rear foot hangers, cant see any nc24 for sale but plenty of nc30 , will they fit?
if there any tip or useful info please tell ,
thanks

Hi mate
Ok the reason y your bike is showing 30 km when u r doing 30 mph is because your speedo is fitted with a km to mph converter
It makes life easier for some people.
Instead of changing the speedo dial thing they put that converter.
So let's say u want to do 60 mph on your clocks you should be doing 60km
As for the rear pegs try eBay or David silver spares
If u have a rear seat but no rear pegs an not tester can fail your bike for that

£1000 is about twice the price even a mint NC24 should be. You can pick up a clean NC30 for less than that if you look hard enough.
To give you an idea, I paid for mine with a knackered old Toshiba laptop worth around £100. I've spent about another £120 getting it through MOT.

Conventional wisdom says to know your limits. To know your limits you need to find them first. Finding your limits generally involves getting in over your head and hoping you live long enough to benefit from the experience. That's the fun part.

Re: nc24 new biker , help please :)
After re-reading my post I think it would make you a bit depressed so i've edited it.
1000.00 is a very high price to pay for an NC24, especially one with that many miles and bits missing. That kind of money your into NC30 teritory (which is overal a nicer bike to own, in terms of ride experience and resale value)
A lot of the super-high priced bikes on ebay have been on there a long time, plus being 'biker season' many people can sell bikes for a higher price to unsuspecting people who just want a bike.
For reference, my 'show bike' that has covered 14,000km (8700) miles and has no bits missing at all, pretty mint cost 650.00
The average price for an NC24 is 3-500. Upto 750 for a mint model (but this woudl have to be amazing)
The MPH converter fitted to your bike can make the true mileage unknown.
Originally the speedo and odometer (mile counter) read in KM, so if it said 20,000km, that is what the bike has done.
When you fit a MPH conveter the odometer mileage changes to miles too. So if it was fitted at 20,000km for example and your bike now reads 60,000km.
60,000km on its own would be 37,250 miles
However, 40,000 miles + 20,000km = 52,427 miles (nearly 15,000 more than you think!)
However, no point worrying about the past now that you have a bike. There not a bad little run around, parts can be scarce, sticky rubber is out of the question and the suspension is quite soft.
You can still have a great time on the bike though and apart from a few minor problems there generally very reliable.
Footpegs are hard to come across, most things on the NC24 are discontiniued, the best thing to do is keep looking on ebay for somebody breaking a bike and put up an add in the for-sale / wanted section.
Only the LEFT ones are available new but there 125.50gbp for each side (250+ vat for both) The right side does turn up as new old stock occasionally but it is the same price as the left side. (Not that you would buy new anyway unless your insane or a millionaire or just masochistic)
DavidSilverSpares.co.uk and part number
50712ML0730 for the Left side
50711ML0730 is for the Right Side (Discontiniued)
Exhaust is the killer.. these rot and new ones are not available from Honda anymore, the engine needs to come out the change it too.
The regulator and charging system packs up eventually as most Honda 400s are made of chocolate. However, this one is an easy fix.
Plenty of people on here will be able to point you in the right direction for advice and spares.
Get some pictures up!

Don't let it get you down dude. Wasted money isnt the way to look at it.
The prices above really are just the market value, even if you did over-pay for the bike, what the bike is worth to you is all that matters!
Just goes to show that you'll get striaght up honest answers on this board
Glad your enjoying it though, that is good to hear! They can be quite a lot of fun.
Are you new to biking?
Feel free to send the questions away, anything your considering doing to the bike? Most of it has probably been done or considered here before so lots of advice.
I think theres a guide somewhere here about putting up pictures.
If you google imageshack you can host free pictures there, you just upload whatever you want and it gives you the link to copy and paste.. copy the forum one, it starts with the word IMG in square [] brackets!
