insuring NC21

Post by doctor-al »

Hi all my first post and first proper big boys bike after passing mod 2 yesterday in the pouring rain, at least I spent a third of the test stuck in a traffic jam - that bit was easy!!!! Anyway here's the problem:
I bought a VFR400K (NC21) off a mate yesterday, but I'm having real trouble getting insurance for the bike. I can't seem to find an insurer who has this model listed. So far they all only have VFR400 R3 (NC30) or R (grey). Please could any owners of an NC21 tell me who they are insured with. Aviva declined to insure me as they had no record of this model on their database and Aquote (brokers) seem incapable coming to any conclusion about insurance for the same reason. I have a CG125 insured through them now and thought it might be cheaper to add a bike to an existing policy than start a new one, also get the benefit of the no claims bonus in June when this expires.
Am I just being a bit anal about the model number and should I just go along with the the NC30 that insurers list. My worries are that firstly I might be paying an excess for all the expensive fairing on the NC30 that's absent on the NC21 and secondly insurers being the worms that they are could try to wriggle out of making any payments in the event of a claim if the model isn't correct.
Any help/advice on this greatly appreciated. I just want to get out on it, even though it looks fabulous I didn't buy it to decorate my garage.

I also have a vfr400k and am insured through Carol Nash as part of a multibike policy that also includes my BMW.When I insured it[by phone] I just said 1993 vfr400.When I renewed it the other month the chap on the other end of the phone said nc30 so I corected him but I still got insurance and at the same price.I don't think they are bothered about whether the bike has a fairing or not but in its performance and all the vfr400's have similar performance.I previously had an NC24 without the fairing and that made no difference to the price of insurance.I like the vfr400k as it is more comfortable and more practical as a road bike than the faired versions

It should be the VFR400R (Grey) as that is what they list the NC21 and NC24 as on most insurers

Thanks guys - I managed to get it sorted this morning (just as the Sun came out  ) through Bikesure, but Carole Nash and Premium Choice (most probably- they didn't get back to me with a quote but knew what an NC21 was) are alternatives.
