My NC30
This is my bike after i got it home 30th march 2010. I bought it for what i considered a half decent price as it was spares or repairs. It was complete, but quite a bit dog eared and it ran, but only on tickover as i found out at a later date.

You can see my last KTM peeping its nose out here
Unfortunately now gone but will never be forgotten. Knackered shoulders and loads of physio ripped this baby from my arms.

damage to the seat unit can be seen on this pic

Dodgy gaps on the rear from the equally dodgy chinese kit

fairing sides held together with odd screws and steel plate

More seat unit damage

To be continued.....

Re: My NC30
First oppotunity i got after getting the bike home was to strip it and have a toot under the bodywork from China. The only thing i kept from the bodywork was the original indicators, tail light and fairing bolts. The body went in the skip at work on the Monday morning. To my amazement it wasn't as bad as i thought it might have been.

Around the rear shock and swing arm were covered in chain lube and several years worth of road grit, but i still can't get my head round how a chain with that much lube on was rusty.

Headers were well tarnished and in need of a bucket load of Autosol, and casings are showing signs of flaky paint. The rearsets were bent and the left one was slightly catching on the swingarm.

Braided lines on the front had ali banjo's and would need replacing at some point.

The Yamamoto had had a couple of lines of mig run round the end to make the can seal better. Trust me when i tell you it didn't. I took this part off the bike first and ground the weld back and finished it with Roloc discs at work. At the same time i welded a couple of small cracks up in the Y pieces. I polished the front headers and system at home with my car polisher and several diferent mops and compounds before finishing it with autosol.
I took the chain and sprockets off and binned those as well. I couldn't bare looking at the "phat innit" sprocket everytime i went in the garage.

Good work.
TBH the bike just looks like it needs some attention to detail and a bit of TLC, should turn out fine.

Re: My NC30
I had a bit of a mad un and ordered a fork spring upgrade kit from Rick O, as the springs were knackered and the oil looked like KFC chicken gravy. I went to see gavin at Jap 4 about a fairing kit as well, and he did me a good deal on a Suzuka top fairing, 1 piece lowers and solo seat. The seat unit had a small amount of damage but nothing serious, so i took it off him because he gave me extra discount, top man. E mailed Brooky as well and ordered the decals for the scheme i was after.
While all the above were being sorted i gave some attention to the bike and used the hang your bike from the rafters in your garage technique. I dont know who thought of this way to lift your bike but it's mint. I removed the wheels, calipers, forks, exhaust, rads and pretty much anything else that could be taken off without the bike falling back on the floor again. Stripped the rear hub down and re greased the bearings and fitted a new wavey disc.

Re: My NC30
I picked the bodywork up from Gavin at Jap4 and took it home before trial fitting it. Considering it's a fibreglass kit I was pretty impressed how it fitted, with not much finishing to straighten edges up and stopper the pin holes up. Once this was done I turned my attention to the damaged seat unit which only needed strengthening with some fibre glass woven roving. Next it went into the bodyshop where I work for some serious fettling. The painter doing the job for me prepped , primed and painted the whole kit before returning it back to my house for refitting and marking the colour scheme out, which took him twice as long as he thought
. Bodywork back off and back to work, and more prepping and painting for the next couple of Saturdays saw the body in colour for the first time in a while. Bodywork was given a final flat with 2000 grit abralon pads and was dropped back off at mine again. By the time all the body had been sorted Brooky had sorted the decals out and had them delivered to me. Once the body had been refitted for the final time, the decals were applied before the body was taken off again to have 3 final coats of clearcoat to seal the decals and give an excellent depth to the paintwork.

First pic shows bike prepped before number boards were painted on

Next with number boards

3 and 4 with decals fitted

Re: My NC30
Looks great, how did you do the numberboard, looks like satin vinyl over the clearcoat?

Re: My NC30
Cheers DM.
The number boards were done with 3mm lining tape and then back masked with 2inch masking tape and paper off the roll. The boards were painted black with a normal rattle can, and then unmasked and the edges of the boards lined with 3mm vinyl stripe fom Halfords. Everything was then clearcoted to seal it all.
Gold wheels are all in hand matey.

Re: My NC30
The pics show the bike prepped for clearcoat, so thats why it looks matt.
I've seen a few of the reps in the gallery and members rides and there's some real minters. Group photo would be a great idea to see the others close up and see the areas where i need to improve mine.
