NC24/NC30 stator?

Post by l00k3y »

sup guys,

I have an E reg NC24, with an R6 rec/reg conversion on, but it seems the charging circuit isn't kicking out anything. Done a diode check on the rec/reg which seems fine, so I'm guessing chances are it's my stator as it doesn't seem to be kicking out much of anything.

JW if the NC30 windings are the same size as the NC24? I did a search and someone mentioned the slightly older model of NC24 is the same as NC30. Not sure which mine is though, not too keen on taking it apart just to measure so I was wondering if anyone knew

cheers!

You can check whether the stator is ok, best to check it properly with a multimeter before you think about replacing it. Try a search for 'charging system', there's sure to be an explanation (or 2!) of how to test it.

I don't see why an nc30 stator wouldn't fit, but that's just a guess. :?:

The very first model of NC24 has a smaller stator which matches the NC21 stator.

The NC30 shares the same stator as the later models of NC24.

cheers guys I'll whack a multimeter on it and see what it's kicking out at 5k rpm. My mate put a 12v ac lamp on the connector and things didn't look too positive, but I'll try this before I replace it. Not sure which stator I will need though. Anyone got any measurements for how big the 2 types of stators are?

Early NC24: Outer Diameter: 92mm Inner diameter: 35mm Thickness through hole: 18mm
Later NC24 / NC30: Outer Diameter: 102mm Inner diameter: 42mm Thickness through hole: 14mm

Set your multimeter to ohms, if it has a manual scale set it to 200 (lowest setting), touch the probes together and if you don't get 0 you'll need to take this measurement off whatever you read.

With the bike turned off take the following two sets of measurements.

Firstly measure resistance between the yellow wires, alternate the probes to measure all combinations.

Should be 0.1 - 1 ohm

Then measure reistance between each yellow wire and earth (frame), you shouldn't have any reading.

With the bike running and the meter set to AC voltage measure the voltage at 5000rpm between the pairs of yellow wires.
