What Engine Work Have People Done?
I recently purchased an engine for a NC29 from ebay.
I am going get it taken apart an inspected as I don't want to put it into my bike for it to just cause me problems.
I have no way of getting it running to hear it.
It is going into my track bike that I am slowly building up.
While the engine is being looked at is it worth installing race cams, skim the head, remove quietening gears, porting work?
I know you can get the cams from GF and a race ready head.
What I am asking is what work have people had done to their engines.
Mine will be a road legal track bike ( little road riding but will still have charging system, Haven't decided on head lights.
I have a titanium Nassert Beet Exhaust to go with the engine when its done.
Is there anything you highly recommend being done to the engine?
Before people say spend money on your suspension etc I have all the suspension mods planned.
Can anyone give guestimations on labour cost for individual tuning jobs and engine strip and inspection.
I'm in the south east is anyone can recommend somewhere good :)
Thanks

Re: What Engine Work Have People Done?
I was hoping for people who had had slightly less work then that undertaken in the post parus linked me to.
Ideally I would love to do all of that but to start with I will be looking at paying someone to do the work.
Who has undertaken peoples engine work and what have you had done? Also how good was the person and the results?

Are you going to race it or will it just be a track bike?

A track bike to start with, there is a possibility of racing it later.

I have engine done by this guys - http://www.rlrmotorsports.com/about.php
I think you need to start by following list:
- HRC airbox or similar
- Exhaust
- HRC ECU
- Carb: main jet\needles
- Intake porting
- Kent Cams or similar (call them they still grind cam)
- NC35 pistons
- total loss..
Maybe anything else.

Re: What Engine Work Have People Done?
I have so far, HRC ecu and nassert titanium exhaust, I will be getting the hrc replica airbox and jet kit to suit.
At the moment I don't want to run total loss but that may change.
I have sent a few emails to GF about his race heads. So if money allows that is a possibility.
It doesn't let you search rvf or nc35 so I haven't been able to see a forum explaining the advantages, fittment etc of them. If you could link or let me know what the best keywords to search would be.

Re: What Engine Work Have People Done?
Unfortunatelly, I'm personaly have not evidence RVF pistons raise compression little bit. I have no spare engine and just bought new set of RVF pistons with rings and etc. and will set up them when my pistons need to be replaced. So, I will left his changes at the end and maybe spent money for set of FCR carb instead.
FCR carb do not increase power (1BHP will be VERY VERY good), but increase responsiveness to the throttle.
Keep in mind that air is generally "bottleneck" to the power, because it's not a problem to "push" as much fuel as you like, but difficult to "push" additional air. So, that why HRC airbox has such design - turbocharger and etc do same. So, to raise power of the engine all you can do without significant mechanic mod - to push as much air as possible and find suitable jets and needles.
I would recommend to buy windeband O2 sensor - so, in this case you don't need dyno to find best setting for you bike. It cost 150$ - compare with 40GBP per hour this is not big price.

Re: What Engine Work Have People Done?
Do you purchase the RVF piston pin, small end etc as well or are they the same as the NC29 ones?
Also aren't the FCR carbs pretty rare and more importantly aren't the intake rubbers even rarer?
Would I just have to wait until someone decides to part with some? Or are there any other options?
